I've recently started to cycle. Since I have a galaxy sport watch and a Note 9. These come in handy when measuring calories, heart rate, distance. Since the watch does not have GPS, so the phone needs to be with me while I cycle. I keep it in my pocket most of the time. If I wear those pants with thigh pockets, it goes there. However, is it necessary for the phone to be attached to my body/leg? I know that if I don't have the watch and just use the bicycle app, the phone will still record the distance and maybe calculate the calories burned. Are there additional sensor data obtained when the phone knows the foot strides? If not, I will just mount the phone to the bike.

Any ideas?

I see. Did not know that. So why does it need a phone connection through s health when cycling?
