Hi, as opposed to the Zephyr and launch chips, Falcon chips are 65nm (the other 2: 90nm), runs cooler, and the 360 runs quieter. I have the Falcon chipset which I bought from gamestop yesterday. The first one I had was a Zephyr chipset so I returned it (the faceplate and jewel case of free Forza 2 & Ultimate Alliance were broken anyways)

Is there any news about the falcon chip coming to Malaysia? My brother is planning to get a 360 but I dont want hi to get the RROD prone Zephyr and launch model. If you guys could spot any, please list down the store you guys got it from.

How to identify falcon chip:

1. If you look from the bottom vent of the 360, the CPU heatsink does not have any copper heatpipe. The other 2 older console has one
2. From the same vent you should see only 2 lying inductor rings as opposed to 3 lying (Zephyr) and 3 standing (launch model)

more info here, but it might not be relevant to you guys as it involves checking the barcode which may not be pasted on your box. but if you can open up the console and look up the specs that would be healpful

may i know what is the Lot# and Manuc.Date of your new falcon? lot #0734 and up?
*
u cant besure if the lot # team and man date woul give u a Falcon. But team FDOU and lot 734 seems to be the minimum

Reporting in. I just bought a 360 yesterday (11/13/2007) at a gamestop store in Rochester, NY.

Confirmed!!!:

Team: FDOU
Lot: 0735
Manufacturing Date: 08/31/2007

NOT FALCON! It is a ZEPHYR.

1. Heatpipe on the heatsink
2. 3 lying inductor rings

Then I exchanged it

Updates:

There was some trouble at the local gamestop, they didnt have stock despite promising to bring one for an exchange of my broken one from a nerby sotre. Well it was a miscommunication, he thought I was going there (the nearby store) despite my explicitly telling him that I didnt have transportation. Anyways:

I got a FALCON chipset!

Team: FDOU
Lot #: 0738
Man. date: 9-18-2007

thing is, there's no xclamp in falcon. it runs much cooler which is the core of the problem causing RROD = heat. given that u guys are in malaysia where the room temp is higher than here, it should be more beneficial to get a falcon than a Zephyr.

yeah im in ny

on the falcon mobo, the X-Clamps are still present

http://pc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/2007/1101/xbox360.htm

but the small revisions made in cooling and lower noise means falcon is still the best model to buy at the moment.

ah my mistake. yes there are xclamps. hm i think i heard it back in kotaku comments that it doesnt have xclamps.

Added on November 15, 2007, 3:31 pmp/ sill take that 3 years rrod warranty over removing the xclamps anytime anyday tongue.gif

hm what about heat then? if the ambient heat is less the GPU should be less than likely to overheat?

heh u put it nicely haris

i do think the 65nm cpu helps a lot in preventing RROD. if the basic problem of RROD is heat, and the solution by some modders are the removal of xclamp and increasing the wind-flow thus reducing heat, the 65nm should help decreasing RROD occurance

smile.gif got another keyword for you guys ...

JASPER

Now this is the ultimate in nanometerization...

Because JASPER is falcon with the 65nm GPU.

Expected August next year. Damn shame because we have to wait that long.

Cheers

premium pro bundle haven't reach falcon yet.

all zephyrs with the improvement model (extra heatsink for the GPU and Glue for the GPU and CPU)

and all comes with HDMI port now.

no way, ive confirmed that my 360 bought a week before thanksgiving is a falcon. checked the heatsink, the watage, and less accurately, the noise and heat produced.

it is a falcon

unless ure refering to the malaysian market and not in general
