Hi all,

Anyone knows if there is a local accepted standard for waterproofing toilet shower area? In the West, standard is to waterproof shower area till 1.8m. Is this practices in Malaysia?

I have wall seepage issue and my contractor is blaming it on the quality of my wall. Says no one does water proofing in wall... Only done on floor 🤔

local accepted standard? skeptical none cos nobody goes into these details anymore. theoretically all slab waterproofing supposed to go up 4 inch into wall to handle short term flooding. don't need for shower area as the room is not a long term holding tank for water, the tiles and plaster is assumed sufficient as membrane to avoid short duration seepage. unless your bathroom or structure is in basement then you will need full dpc.

see it is easy for your contractor to blame when everyone has limited info on it. water seepage has many causes and each case need to investigate individually. even if you do full dpc water will always flow to the easiest route and will complicate troubleshooting as it might go very far from the source and not make sense.
