MCMC wants public opinion on National Digital Identity - MCMC - Monday, 27 Jul 2020

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real-name_system
''''''' China
The Chinese government in 2011 promulgated its Regulations on the Development and Management of microblogging, which stated that microblogging sites should ensure users were registered under their real names.[5] Major microblogging sites like Sina Weibo, 163 and Sohu agreed to put real name systems into practice by 16 March 2012. Users who had not provided their real information would be barred from posting and transmitting messages thereafter.[citation needed] On 1 June 2017, the Cyber Security Law of China took effect, requiring that everyone who uses Chinese websites to provide their phone number. China's state-run media claimed this would provide a "safe and real" Internet environment. '''''''

Will the Malaysian government be using the NDI to try to copy CCP China's Real-Name ID System in "spying" on all her citizens for illegalities, especially by "anti-government" political commenters or posters.?
....... Shouldn't the Malaysian government follow USA Anonymous ID System in non-spying and more privacy for all her citizens.?

Doesn't quite secure online services already exist with today's technology, eg online banking, shopping, food delivery, e-hailing, e-government, e-Voting in USA, etc.?

Got real need for a National Digital ID System for Malaysia.? ... Personally, I don't think so.

Please participate in the online MCMC survey via the 1st link.

I have already participated in the anonymous MCMC survey. Look out for the "klik disini" button. The MCMC website is a bit kelam-kabut. It's coming NID System should also likely be kelam-kabut = mas aka mana ada sistem.

Which countries are implementing digital IDs in SE Asia?
Plans of launching a new digital ID by mid-2019 were announced by Communications and Multimedia Minister, Gobind Singh Deo, at the Malaysiakini Ecommerce Entrepreneur Summit held in October 2018.

However, the digital ID, said the minister, won’t replace MyKad and won’t be mandatory for citizens. According to Gobind, its main purpose is to be a “verifiable platform of trust”.

Gobind Singh no more minister. Now got new minister from PN. The political agenda may have been changed, eg the method of awarding 5G spectrum licenses has likely been changed.

NDI may not be mandatory for citizens but local websites can require mandatory NDI for registration, in order to use their online services.

Maybe Singapore is also following the CCP China system.

In China, it seems her NDI or Real-Name ID System is the CCP's way of monitoring/"spying" and controlling all her citizens, eg only citizens having a QR Green Code in their China-made Alipay Health Code/NDI app can enter supermarkets, shopping malls, restaurants, etc. .......

https://www.engadget.com/2015-07-09-how-spy...dismantled.html - How spyware peddler Hacking Team was publicly dismantled - Violet Blue, @violetblue - July 9, 2015

''''''' Who are Hacking Team's clients?

Australia, Azerbaijan, Chile, Colombia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Ethiopia, Honduras, Hungary, Iraqi Kurdistan, Kazakhstan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Mongolia, Morocco, Nigeria, Oman, Poland, Panama, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sudan, Syria, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United States, Uzbekistan.

Countries not on the maintenance list that were discovered to be active with Hacking Team's services and products include France, Ireland, the UK and Switzerland.

Eventually, Hacking Team woke up -- to be greeted by an online sea of memes and mockery, and its entire business dealings smeared across the internet. '''''''

With such a history of using spyware, I do not think the Malaysian government under PN/BN or even if under PH, can be fully trusted wrt the NDI system and the resultant government apps/websites, unless proven otherwise by international computer/phone security researchers.

The MCMC's NDI may look good, modern and useful but it can be abused secretly by the powers-to-be.
