Hi guys,

I tried searching for a solution for this but could not get any.

Just bought DIR-868L AC1750 to replace the old stock Unifi DIR-850L AC1200.
FYI running on firmware 1.22SHC
Everything works but I only get maximum 350mbps download on 868L (tested on http://speedtest.tm.com.my)
When tested with DIR-850L I get 500+mbps download.

user posted image

I used Cat5e cable for both WAN and LAN1 to PC.
Tried on another PC, same result.
Have reset router, same result.
Have even swapped this router with another DIR-868L router - that one gave me slower speed around 250mbps (that one running on older 1.09SHC)

Appreciate the advice here, especially from other 868L users if any.

they ask me to test using firefox, I get 820MB from firefox, run a few time, get the same result

try other browser, this what I get:-

Fire fox --> around 780 - 820mb
Chrome --> around 450 - 500mb
Opera (VPN) --> around 110mb

mpyw I tried Firefox and Chrome, both giving me 350mbps download (chrome is bit slower around 315mbps).

Did a live chat with Dlink Malaysia, they checked my FW which is current 1.22FW and asked me to reset the router. That didn't do anything as well. And the fact this is the 2nd router I had issues with slow WAN speed, really losing hope a bit here. The rep did mentioned router should support 1000mbps WAN.

Something tells me that your PC system isn't 'sufficient' to get full speed.
Can you tell us your system specification? CPU, RAM type + size, GPU and SSD/HDD?
Maybe it is caused by Meltdown and Spectre mitigation......or temperature throttling (yes, dirty heatsink+fan).....or wrong CPU multiplier (happened with one forumer, turn out he had been using low CPU multiplier for a long time...).....or firewall/antivirus issue?

EDIT: Or you didn't turn on NAT acceleration on DIR-868L? Did you enable QOS on the router? Please don't. With QOS active, you will only get 250 - 300 Mbps.

JohnLai thanks for your input but I dont think it's anything to do with CPU throttling here. I have 2 i5 2400, i7 7700 on 8GB DDR3 and DDR4 respectively + SSD, runs on gigabit LAN and Cat 5e cables.

As soon as I switch back to the old DIR850L I'm getting 500mbps on LAN.

I'm not sure how to find NAT acceleration on 868L, how do you do this?

No QOS enabled as well.

I5 2400 definitely got network speed problem with CPU microcode* especially on WIN10. I7 7700 is fine. Let just assume you use I7 7700 all the way. laugh.gif

Hmm......years ago, I read somewhere that NAT acceleration on DLink tends to be borked if* user enables QOS once.
There is no menu to tick/untick NAT acceleration. It is tied with QOS.
The NAT acceleration stays disabled even after QOS is unchecked/disabled afterward.
Only way to restore NAT acceleration is do a complete reset via pinhole and never touch QOS at all. rclxub.gif

edit: Wording correction.

JohnLai well reset didnt help.

I went back to shop and unfortunately they didnt have the means to test this issue. Offered me to replace with another router but I dont want to burn my budget.

Finding friends who have at least 500mbps broadband subscription to try this at their place now and see if I can replicate the issue. Else, I may sell this off as incompatible for my usage. edit: already listed this in garage sale, lazy to troubleshoot aldy

It is a brand new unit with 1 year warranty.

Doubting the Cat5e? Its a gigabit cable, and already proven achieved 500+mbps on the old router smile.gif

Anyway I dont have any Cat6 but plenty of Cat5e and tested with several of them. Theres even a Cat5e cable that comes with the router, tested with that still stuck at 350mbps.

Get a certified cable just to eliminate any possible issues. Also check if there is an options to enable hardware accelerated NAT etc

Why are you doubting the cable when it can reach 500+mbps on the old router. This alone proves that it is sufficient to handle that transfer speed.

I cant find NAT acceleration on the 868L unfortunately.

Make sure CPU is Intel Core i-series 8th gen and above or AMD Ryzen 2nd Gen and above, RAM at least 8GB and make sure your Windows OS not install on a harddisk. Go get a nvme SSD.
https://shopee.com.my/ADATA-SX6000-128GB-25...5106.1489429588

Clean install a new Windows OS on the m.2 nvme SSD. Then do the speedtest again. Before speedtest, make sure to turn off antivirus especially Kaspersky.

It's definitely the router issues, two solutions to get maximum speed.
1. Wait for firmware updates to get fix 500mbps supports (same like last time Asus RT-AC55UHP did but impossible for D-Link).
2. Return the product then buy a high-end router.

D-Link DIR-868L AC1750 just selling RM139, the CPU and RAM of this router is too low end. It is hard to performs up to 500mbps. Usually this router is good enough for Unifi 100mbps.
I recommend you to buy this router for 500mbps.

For those user who subscribed to 500mbps/800mbps/1gbps. Please make sure you have to invest at least RM1,000 for your home network devices in order to get your satisfy speed. If you really can't effort to invest more than RM1,000 to optimize your home networking, please downgrade to 100mbps.

I can get over 800Mbps using 4th gen intel cpu (i5 4210), pretty sure you don't need 8gen and above to get max speed
capalang kingston A400 ssd, not even nvme.
wired connection of course. using a 'normal' tplink archer c7 router.. no need to spend 1k if you want max speed on wired connection

Ridiculous CPU and NVME are overrated here.
There is no need for a high spec rig, we are talking about 500mbps not 500MB/s here. One thing for sure you need is a gigabit LAN.

My old i5 2nd gen can achieve 500+mbps without a sweat, it is not a CPU or HDD bottleneck issue here. The router itself have a dual core CPU (if Im not mistaken) to handle the process.

Anyway if anyone lives near PJ with unifi 500mbps above plan do let me know so I can carry router over to test.

quick check, the problematic router did not have QOS enabled right when you did the speedtest?

disable the QOS and give it a try again if its enabled.

Else, forget what i am said above.

**ok, saw it in in your previous post that mentioned QoS is not enabled.**

2nd comment: unfortunately most likely this is their firmware issue and i doubt dlink will gonna releasea a new firmware to patch this for malaysia.
I would suggest you try to flash with DD-WRT and setup the vlan500 for unifi PPPoE dialup

DD-WRT
