I think it is only later that they defined USA as udang, sotong and ayam. Just because those ingredients fit the acronym.

Years ago, the nasi goreng USA at the warungs I've been to were always Western themed like hotdog & stuff.

Then again, never had nasi goreng at mamak my while life aside roti kosong.

Got lots of Gooding Thai prep nasi goreng as a student myself.

I was referencing eateries from the 80s and 90s. Out of the oldfags I asked, only 1 remebered eating a variant of nasi goreng USA sometime in the 70s. It also had that Western theme. Probably back then everything Western orignated from USA.

I think the whole udang, sotong and ayam definition of the acronym came in the 2000s, and people started matching to it.
