Hi guys, I just got my X50 in December last year and within just 4 months, my car bumper got hit by a careless driver who was reversing his car next to my parking slot.

I've managed to claim his 3rd party insurance for this but as you would know, all this is being handled by an "agent" at the Balai who managed the entire process for me, including offering to do the repair works at his workshop.

Just wondering, for the sake of convenience, does repairing the bumper affect any of my warranty? Or should I have the repairs at a service centre? I'm asking because of the additional sensors everywhere which is different from my older cars, so just wanted to be sure how to maneuver around this.

Seems like its ur first encounter for such incident.

Next time call ur own insurance company first to inform. If can drive, the  go lodge  police report first. If cannot drive, call insurance to tow the car back to Proton Paint & Body Repair workshop. Proton officer will assist and help u from there for all the claims and repairs.

For ur current case, u probably voided all ur warranty from Proton as the third party workshop might not be using original parts to repair. Its common workshop practice to claim original from insurance company, but provide used or non-genuine OEM parts in order to maximize their profits margin.

Try ask if the repair can change to Proton Paint & Body for claim or not. Big chance they say cannot la, but u can alwis reconfirm with ur insurance company.

Why not sending it to body and paint centre? Claim his insurance

Thanks for the quick replies.

My car is still with me since the damage is minor while we wait for the official police investigation results (although the "agent" mentioned that the culprit has admitted fault).

The agent mentioned that his workshop would be able to claim the third party insurance as well, does that mean his workshop is also approved by Proton (btw my insurance is also covered by Proton)? Does that mean that it is still safe to be done by his workshop? If there are any risk involved, I would still prefer to go to a Proton centre to repair, but just want to make sure all grounds are covered since I'm not sure the investigation papers has concluded yet.
