Camera which use AA battery is a gift, not a doom. Capacity on rechargeable battery is improving and it's already out perform those proprietary batteries. Imagine you are on vacation and your battery runs out, pop in a pair of alkaline AA and it will last you another 50 to 100 shots. Run out again? pop in another pair into A640. Tell me how you gonna do that with proprietary battery?

Proprietary battery means battery designed to be used on certain camera only. Some of those are Li-ion battery. A640 has articulated LCD, a large image sensor: 1/1.8" instead of the common 1/2.5". I'd say this is the best in this price range. It's been rated at Highly Recommended in Dpreview. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canona640/
