Played for nearly 2 hours (gaming time for me is tremendous on a workday!) and I got to say,

it is absolutely a brilliant game. biggrin.gif A daring, bold game. It does not feel like it wants to be like most shooters out there. It just wants to be unique on its own.

The missions lack variety, the character animations are like puppets, the enemies are old tech and the story super thin. A bad thing? Not one bit! The missions are supposed to lack variety, the character animations are supposed to be unique in this way, the enemies are supposed to react and behave this way while the story is what it needs to be - present to move the game forward. Everything ID had wanted to make is in the game.

I honestly why most gamers (80% on Meta for PC, and 3.9/10 from user ratings!) dislike this game - - they are comparing it to games they want it to be like. We all had expecations, but judge this game for what it is and not what it isn't.

I don't mind the visuals being bland up-close. You hardly notice when the actions kicks in. I love how ID seem to put fun in front of everything else (for John Carmack obviously is his geeky tech).

I went back to reading old review of "Doom 3" and guess what? The cons of the game are exactly the same with "Rage" - the linearity, the enemy spawn points and the lack of so-called proper story. This game is brilliant. I am going to take my own time and play it.

Nice to hear a rather positive comment.
The story is kinda bland, true, but its supposed to be enjoyable go in and kill everything shooting coz that's how id games are~
I'm just bugged by the textures as of now..gonna wait for that patch. The characters are really lively and the voice acting is pretty top notch tho!

I've finish the game last Sat, took 1 week, steam recorded 24hrs.

Now playing Nightmare mode. So far, so good, got the 2nd Defib.
I don't find it's harder than normal mode, only that you need to be prepared with your ammo. However I find Nightmare mode, car battle is tougher, but the AI still dumb sometimes.

So far i think it's a solid shooter. Guns choices are good. The only downside is, lack of places to go and game is too short, uninspiring quest. But the enemy variety and guns choices make up for it.

I wish the car modding can be more than what it has. And also wish it's not only Starky that challenge you, or more cars involves in the races.

If you guys looking for more challenge, go to multiplayer and choose Legend of the Wasteland. I just finished the 1st map.

Your own words, not mine. I said what I said and it is true. nod.gif Just because majority dislike the game does not mean there aren't those who like it. And I love it. It feels just like playing 'Doom 3' especially after firing a weapon for the first time. ID had stayed true to what they do best while keeping everything fresh. Most rants are because of expectations as to what a "shooter" should be like. If a texture pack is to be released, then it will make the game doubly good.

yeah...why do we need a 'story' for shooters? FPSs are meant for us to shoot something in game! as long as it is fun to fire any weapon in the game, it is good shooter.

stories are boring. the actions are where the fun of shooters is. want story play RPG.

^ Yes true.

In fact, if I were to start questioning the story in "Rage", I might as well not play the game. The protagonist gets out of this Ark after goodness knows how long, hears a speech and then... starts fighting for the world ? tongue.gif This ain't "Half-Life 2". We should keep looking forward to more tech goodness from ID while having the ability to 'immerse' ourselves with what they have to offer. The possibilities from "Rage" on future titles are incomprehensible. Far from perfect, it is still very much the next step in gaming tech.

No offense but the rather poor choice of words (or sentence structure) made you sound sarcastic. If you liked the game, good for you.
I do too, i gave it a 7.5 / 10 a few pages back.

p/s: If you don't, good for you too. smile.gif

it is the nothing special that makes this good FPS special. many tried to be special, and they failed miserably.

Rumour: Bethesda "indefinitely postpone" Doom 4 after Rage

QUOTE
Industry whispers speak of Bethesda being thoroughly troubled by id Software's Rage and it's 'okay, but not great' reception among critics. Doom 4 on hold?

A source close to the publisher claims a "company wide" meeting held in Dallas resulted in Bethesda slamming the brakes. There's a "serious lack of confidence".

The alleged decision by Bethesda and ZeniMax stemmed from "the issues and reviews" of the recently released Rage, which has shown a "serious lack of confidence in the project management at id". The PC version has been heavily hit with technical woes.

The Rage development team was meant to switch to Doom 4 after the game was finished but that may now not be the case. Updates for Rage are still in the works as id develop a more extensive graphical options menu for the PC community.

The game's own system for determining how flashy the visuals are has failed, terribly, leaving most with blurred textures and horrendous 'texture pop-in'. For a while the PC community themselves worked to fix the problems, and to their immense credit; they did.

If true, is Bethesda right to force id Software to take a breather?

Crap, I want Doom 4.
