Wow. I am amazed. "Rage" is absolutely breathaking. From the opening sequence to the gun play to the driving to the visuals. iD really has done it. OK, I just played for less than 30 minutes and nothing but praises for the game.

From reviews I've read, nothing like that in the game. Well, partially.

It doesn't feel like other FPS shooters. The gun fights here are more tense and much more, how to put it, Halo-ish fun where you just want to keep shooting. While the enemy placement seem archaic, it is absolutely what iD had wanted to make.

As for the story, well, it works. Who needs a Hollywood-script when you have a fully realized world like "Rage".

The visuals, stunning. When you get close to an object, the textures seem washed out and blurry. And I mean, on every object seems to be the case. But only if you look. If you are whizzing past the environments, driving, running or mowing down enemies, nothing of this sort will be noticeable. Indoors are as stunning as outdoors.

Yet to encounter any issues, be it save game or crashes.

One thing that really amazed me the most is the scalability of the game. On my i3 540 3.2Ghz with 8Gb memory and GTX 460, everything was uber smooth with 2x AA and no V-sync. Visible tearing? Oh well, I always turn off V-sync in my games thus not a problem for me one bit. The draw distance and sprawling outdoors are a sight to behold. The mountainous terrain have considerable texture variation (Mega texture I guess) and looks brilliant.

Overall, just after 30 mins of game time, I must say I don't see how this game goes downhill from here. The missions are pretty straightforward - enemies are at A, you go to A, clear them out, done. This is exactly what iD had intended to make. I daresay iD has never changed their gaming dev formula. If one does not know this is not Doom 4 and you tell them this is a reboot to the Doom series with everything re-realized, they will believe it...

Rage is a good game, got the post apocalypse feel, just that the game is a bit quite short and the initial graphic issue f***ed up causing a lot of bad review....but since the dev is gonna release some nice patch soon to make up for it, i think i will make another run once the patch is release

Many have said the quests and sidequests are either straightforward or meh, but hey, this is ID's style, which is "we have mission for you, and only YOU who can make the difference while we just hang our buttocks back here and enjoy a cup of tea while you go torture yourself out there" motto.

I can't stop enjoying the facial animation, watching the lips and eyebrows move while doing the hand gestures amke the AI look surreal. Enemy AI's interaction against you is just smart, and I dare say it is on par with FEAR1's AIs.

I just finished the game last night, hope for DLCs and will replay again.

Lol, the blurry textures might be solved by using a technique called "Bicubic-upsample" according to Carmack. It is just an interpolation method to make it look better but not much.

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/RAGe-PC-g...mack,13725.html

Carmack's statement - "Our first test of a higher res page file didn't help much, because most source textures didn't actually have any more detail"

QUOTE
However, should a higher res HD Photo/JPEG XR or native DXTC texture pack come in the future, it would weigh close to 170 GB - 200 GB and would definitely bring better image quality to the game, but I feel they're shying away from such a big download or there would be issues with current PC/videocards having to deal with as much hi-res material for a single scene.  Detail texture overlays smell's like compromise...  Anyway, I feel the tech is very much "forward looking" and it'll only get better with future PCs.  After my initial underwhelmed feeling, I'm actually warming up to Id tech 5!

Imagine a texture map pack that weighs 170Gb - 200Gb ! Have to install the game to external drive then...

Somehow with id tech 5, I do hope that other game devs who will be using them will not neglect anyone with ATI GPUs. Yes I am looking at you, Brink.

I enjoyed having spider bots and turrets in firefights.

Finally something in FPS that actually assist me in fighting the opponents.

OMG , the camera view/look when on vehicle is bloody dumb. Firstly u have to press a dedicated key to view - y cant they do it like other games, u jst get in the bloody vehicle and move the mouse to view! Secondly the left right view is inverted!!! Even when the main mouse setting invert is off!!!

Lol saw this news, apparently Id face tough question from an Interview with Gamasutra and decided to blacklist Gamasutra from any future interview of their product because Id think the interview is somewhat hostile....

Then you should play Uncharted 2-3 or LA Noir on PS3, those animations will really blow you away.

Just two.

Can't summon turrets after you summon two bots.
