10 yo (year 2000) Iswara 1.3 M/T that I had driven until last December, when I traded it in. The problems and replacements over the years:

1. Honk kaput after the steering lock accidentally came loose and pressed on the steering wheel. Was my fault.
2. Replaced headlight bulb and side indicator light bulb once each on 2008.
3. Replaced aircon switch on 2006.
4. engine lubricant leaking, replaced seal and timing belt on 2009.
5. Minor brake fluid leakage, 2008.
6. Driver power window motor, 2008.
7. Odometer died on 2004, never replaced.
8. Gauge cluster backlight died on 2009.

Another family car, a 1.5 Wira M/T (year 1997). Had been driven 10 years before it was sold.

1. Door lock, which would jump up and down when remote button is pressed.
2. Door rubber seal, which prevented the window from winding down.

Most of these were due to wear and tear after many years of use. I really abused the Iswara, but it soldiered on year after year.

On the other hand, my sister's 4 year old Vios:

1. Squeaking from driver side seat belt. Squeaks on every single bump on the road.
2. Droning sound from passenger side front wheel, found out to be the bearings. waited 8 HOURS at the sc to get it fixed because the ball bearings had to be pumped into their sockets by an external vendor!
3. The remote buttons, made of rubber, dah koyak long long time ago. Now there are two holes where you can see the buttons and circuit board inside.
4. Tyre rims bent. Dunno how that happened.

Worse, my cousin's new BMW:

1. Brake failed. He went to the SC, threw the key at the service advisor without saying a word. The foreman went and test the car, then came back and announce "Eh, you car no brake."
2. Door lock failed, cannot open even after unlock via remote.
3. Brake light failed, replacement costs 8k.

His wife don't dare to drive that car.

My point? All cars have their problems. It is really unfair to point at Proton and say they suck, when you can spend twice the amount of money to get a Toyota only to encounter the same friggin problems. You get what you paid, or worse, like my cousin, you get lemon.

hi all,

i want to ask something about my brother's persona elegance 2010.

last 2 days, his car, when i started the engine, the yellow icon/symbol on the speedometer light on. whats wrong with the engine?

it is not the oil icon (the red light one). but the other one with yellow light beside the door icon.

p/s: the pic taken from google.

any suggestion? thanks nod.gif

That's the check engine light.

Does it go off after a while? If not better send to SC or mechanic.

isnt the BMW new? why your cousin still need to pay for those problems?? shouldnt there be like 3 year warranty or sumting>??

Yes, ultimately he didn't have to pay for any of them. The brake light issue they were reluctant to replace for free until he threaten to go to the media.

guys.. need your help. i have probelm with my proton waja 1.6 auto mitsubishi engine. here is the story:

my car vibrate when i push the fuel paddle more than 80km/h. but when continue push the fuel paddle and engage the "N" gear, the engine ramps ok without any vibration.

dont mistake me, its not the balancing problem because already do balancing, and on wheel balancing..run at speed from 0 -120km/h while the front tyre hanging in the air, but no problem.

some solution already taken:
1. change engine mounting - yeas i observe wear and tear at the mounting and yes the engine vibrate before i change the mounting

2. right drive shaft also have been change since during on wheel balancing.. can be seen that driver drive shaft is 'gelong'

3. earlier there is one spark plug coil nearly putus.. so already change them

But my car still shaking when i drove more than 80km/h.. its shaking like when u have the shopping mall trolley that the both front whell is not rolling steadily it will shake while u are pushing them..

its something like that..

i also notice some sound from the left front side of the tyre when i hits bumps or rocks.. is this shaking /vibration due to my absorber??? yes i havent change my absorber until now (130 000 km).. what worries me if i am changing the absorber it will not solve this problem.

please advice..
*
If balancing is done and driveshaft (I think you mean the tie rod) have been replace, I guess the only other thing to check are the absorbers. 130k km is a long way to drive without replacing them.

Hi. I'm an owner of Saga LMST 2007.

My mileage is 76k now, and my colleague advises me to change the timing belt for engine care purpose. What do you think?

So far the car serves me well. No problem for long distance travelling, sayang the car most on fuel saving, although now not really that save liao (RM60 can go for 350km+- only)
*
Ideally should change every 80k km, so your colleague is not far off. The whole timing belt kit, incl. the belt, oil seal etc. plus labour should be around RM300++

Yup. It goes off after a while. This week gonna send the car to SC.
*
When starting the car, it's normal for the check engine light to lit up for a few seconds, then turns off. If the light remains on after a minute, then something is wrong.

to anyone who owns a saga fl,

i have two issues with my car. 1) my steering horn cover rattles each time i make a turn. 2) the driver door panel also rattles when driving on poor road conditions.

i have sent to the proton service outlet twice to get them fixed and all they 'claim' they did was to 'tighten' the screws.

it is now better, but both areas still rattle on rare and random occassions. i am disappointed with proton quality and service.

my worry is the problem will come back again in future.

anyone with similar experience and hopefully can share if there is any success in solving it.
*
SC technicians will only do so much to hunt down rattles. You might have better luck DIY yourself. My brand new FLX also have rattling from the dashboard, driver side window and one of the rear doors. I just ignore them until I can do something about it.

if think of the money paid for something of inferior quality, sure sakit hati. but, this is usually how business operates, and we are only ikan bilis.

need to be a lot smarter and learn from experience. meantime, i'll just tolerate and observe.

Honestly, even if you buy a 500k bmw there will also be problems. That time more butthurt.

Bottomline, you need a car, ANY car, be prepare to live with car problems. True for cars from tata to lamborghini.otherwise, just take public transport or bicycle.

dear sifus, want to ask, my wira the "engine" light at dashboard (the yellow one under the handbrake sign) came on when i halfway driving. bring to the serviceman near my office (cos i dun dare drive long time), he said common problem and just sensor spoil, "biasa lah untuk wira". he can help me mod something to make "timing" better so wont light up anymore, but i declined.
any of u experience it before? i turn off engine and turn on again, it will not light up. but sometimes travel for a while, it will light up again, sometimes no. and i notice if i dun turn on aircon, it will not light up. is it just "timing" and "sensor" issue?
*
Engine light indicate either one of the sensors have detected abnormal conditions in your engine / gearbox / exhaust, or the sensor itself is faulty.

Dont simply drive into a workshop, find one that has the equipment to plug into you ecu and check the error codes, such as proton service centers. That mech you went to obviously has no idea what is wrong, just guessing.

- yr 2010, mileage - 38k km
- full service at proton SC

already checked with careline, they inform that lower arm, engine mounting & rubber bush related not covered.. than what's the point of warranty?
my other car "non proton" manufacturer do not hav such problem..
*
Other than the Engine and gearbox which carries a 3 year warranty, other items such as what you mentioned are covered for at most 1 year or 20k km, both of which have been exceeded in your case.

Actually, your items are also considered wear and tear items which are not covered, but if it were broken within 1 year, some SCs may replace for your for free.

they shld at least explained to me properly rather than jst refused my claims..
even careline samething..

Hehe dont rage. Dont expect them to give you an explanation, even if they explain i also take it with a pinch of salt.

This is where forums and the internet are a great source of info. Also consult your manual, it should be mentioned somewhere.

My sister just bought a Proton Saga FLX 2 from Urus Usaha Sdn Bhd 3 weeks ago.

On the first day, the brake showed red light immediately after she collected the car (still within the car dealer's premises). The dealer then sent the car to the workshop and the mechanic simply top up the brake oil and had us collected the car.

Call i-Care, complain about the dealer and SC, then try to get them to arrange for a tow truck to bring your car to CoSE for a thorough check.

In the meantime, feel free to file a complain to the consumer's tribunal against the dealership, the SC or even Proton.

The side skirts are attached using some chweing gum thingy!
WTFFFFFFFFFF MAN PROTON

Seriously!!??

any othere saga flx se owners having this also?
*
The sideskirt is fastened on both ends to the inside of the wheel well with screws.

Or do you prefer they drill more holes on your chassis instead of using adhesive?

Maybe go and look at how aftermarket sideskirts are installed?

Hello guys,

Need ur advise on something. Lately the handbrake indicator (the '!' sign) on my Perdana V6 is always on whenever I i use my car. The car behaves normally, but the indicator doesnt seem to go off. Any ideas why?

Do I need to go SC to check, or normal workshop only is fine? Thanks. smile.gif

Check your brake fluid level.

Hi,

I owned Proton Saga FL (aged one & half years old & mileage 15k).

I wanted to ask anyone actually experienced the sound of "metal brushes with metal" by the rear tyres. It only happened when i drive my car early in the morning at a slow speed. The sound also can be heard when i stepped on my brakes.

May I know what am I supposed to do with it ?

I went to a mechanic shop nearby to ask and was told perfectly normal.

Thanks.
*
Most probably from your rear drumbrakes. my bet is they are jammed.

Jack up your rear wheels, release handbrake and try to spin the wheel.

My Saga BLM (2009 Sept) is going to be 3 years++, and recently I got the following issue.

I did my car service last week, I changed my 4 car mounting (original spec), but problem still there.

1. metal clanking issue when driving in low speed (0-20km/h), especially initial pushing with oil, or nearly stop that time. There will be a "tak tak". My car technician said that it is the steering issue. The fiber inside steering had lose so it will have the sound.

He told me that they is no spare part on this item, he even told me he asked the proton kilang also no store in whole Malaysia (WTH??!!)

This show me something like this, I guess should be in this part. (correct me if I am wrong, I am not car expert)
[attachmentid=3333198]

He prove me that is steering issue is because, even my car did run on the run, he just turn the steering left and right got the "tak" sound.

I would like to ask, is this really the steering issue, if what is other possible issue? If that is how much is that spare part for the whole steering steal?

My technician told me that the worst case, is the steering oil will leaking, then sendiri "zap sang", I was like = =|||
Anyone face this issue and fixed the problem?
*
I think that is either driveshaft of steering rack problem (likely to be driveshaft related).

BLM parts are still being produce because FLX is still in production, wtf he say no spareparts, then what parts are the new cars using? Toyota parts ah?

My advice to you, find another mechanic, preferably someone who knows what they are talking about.

Hi guys,im owner of Saga Flx i got a warning indicator light but i have no idea what is it. its on the right of the petrol indicator light. Shape like durian with an "!" in the middle. can anyone tell me what is that. Press brake and it doesn't light up but accelerate and it will show it. very blur adi
*
FLX CVT?

That's your gearbox warning indicator. Send to SC to check immediately. Since it only appears when accelerating, suspect is belt slip or clutch slip.

same with mine bro, not sure what the problem is .. probably the rear brake drum i guess. My service is due not too long so will ask them whats the problem  sweat.gif

Rear drumbrakes. It is a known issue. Best solution is to replace it with new drums. Go to COSE if you are in KL, or contact iCare to see which nearest SC can replace for you.

i know that i need to change the suspension, but what else should i change too? i didn't know any parts of the suspension except the coil and absorber. the thing whatchamacallit, lower arm? do i need to change it too?
*
Change absorber first, it is wear and year item, normal to wear out after so many years. After that see if it improves.
