More than 90% of MM2H applications from Sept-Nov 2019 rejected, claims association
KUALA LUMPUR: More than 90% of all Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme applications from September to November of last year were rejected, claimed agents handling the programme.
The Malaysian My Second Home Consultants Association (MM2HCA) said that their members had received many rejection letters for their applications.
The letters issued by the Immigration Department said that a review committee rejected the applications for a social visit pass under the MM2H programme.
MM2HCA president Lim Kok Sai said that MM2H consultants would take months to prepare applications and they would promote the programme overseas, spending a lot of time and money on it.
"Our members were shocked when they suddenly received many rejection letters.
"There were no reasons attached for the rejections and they are not allowed to appeal the decisions. If the applications are rejected, the agents have to return the deposits to the applicants," Lim said at a press conference Thursday (July 2).
Lim said that the review committee consisted of representatives from the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac), the Home Ministry and other government departments.
Applications for MM2H visas go through Motac, with decisions on this conveyed in six to nine months.
He said that previously, the rejection rate was about 10% of applications and that they were allowed to appeal the rejections.
Lim said that the massive rejections would result in the agents facing severe financial difficulties and result in the closure of companies.
"We do not have excessive demands or unreasonable requests, we are only hoping for a fair and reasonable response on why there were many rejections," he said.
Lim added that large sums of money that benefit various sectors have been brought into the country via the programme.
Since the inception of the MM2H programme in 2002, the government had given approvals to some 40,000 foreigners to reside in Malaysia.
Participants of the programme enjoy the privilege of a Social Visit Pass, multiple entry for 10 years and a renewable visa.

Why go here when they can get british citizenship.
not every hongkie cn go britain mar, u think britain say 3 million ppl can get british citizenship means really 3 million will get? most hongkie cnt even speak or read basic english
n our culture, language n food is very similar to hk (malaysian chinese culture) and near to hk also (2-3 hours flight away)
and this was from last year until dis year, before boris announced that hongkie ppl can get british citizenship
i am not to sure about the line but if take business visa sure better freedom than mm2H
i think its the benefits of mm2h, mm2h visa is like malaysian PR status for 10 years (cannot vote la), and business visa need a minimum amount of investment while mm2h oni need to put in few hundred thousands in any malaysian bank account, and not all hongkies come here wan to invest in business, they also not familiar with the market here
Hmm then what is the purpose of the house ? Only for vacation ?
The visa is strictly a retirement visa. I've asked before, as my wife became Singaporean years ago (while I remained Malaysian) - but the MM2H isn't even an option for spouses of Malaysians. Essentially, MM2H visa holders have no work rights in Malaysia.
But hk ppl if go to msia work conlanfirm puke blood with low celery
but low stress too. Our lifestyles are laidback, its a fact, and we enjoy it. But i think the main issue is currency, the exchange rate so bad until cannot enjoy buy foreign product. If The exchange rate to USD is 1:3. There will be less complaints
does that mean that all existing applications are also cancelled and would not be processed ? And that everyone would need to reapply with new requirements after the program is resumed ? I spent a lot of money On application and am very disappointed :-(
whet do you think ? Will it get much more expensive I am just so heartbroken as I die to money s d effort on the application and hoped it would work out
