by the way what is line-level microphone ? what is the difference with the normal mic (red color), those tiny small mic ?
because on any PC's motherboard, it comes with audio out ( to speaker), mic in and line in but Mac products use built in mic. The problem is we cant boost the mic volume, as i need to speak so loud on voice calling.
has anyone own one of these with the finder logo ? so where do we plug in the mic ?
in order to use line in, we need to make changes at system peferences -> sound -> input -> name line in port audio line port.
result: still no sound.
i just want better voice calling (skype) to my friend cause my friend keep complain barely hear my voice so well.

did u try to drag the input level to the highest?
i'm using a macbook which is very clear on the otherside when i do skype with a fren using imac...

we both have no problems bout the mic is being too weak...

yes i have drag the input level to the highest level, but the built in mic is bit too weak on skyping. hardly hear my voice

I'm using a Macbook too, using internal mic, the one next to iSight camera, no problems with Skype as well, even with my Macbook about 3-4 feet away when using with external monitor. Clear on the other side.

If you are using MB/MBP and wants to plug in external mic, I guess you have only one port to plug it in, which is the Line In Port. And then adjust the input volume in System Preference-Sounds-Input.

Oh dont forget to select the input in Skype-Preference-Audio-Audio Input.

aiyer.... just get a bluetooth mic... and go wireless! around RM99 can find one already...

I second xaw5126's suggestion. If your only concern is using Skype, get a bluetooth headset and be done with it. It's way more convenient.

I'm guessing line-level microphone is a self-amplified/self-powered mic. For the record, I use my internal mic to iChat/Skype with my friends halfway around the world and they don't complain that I sound muffled or soft. My input volume slider thingy is even set at half, not even full. I'm using a MBP btw

hmm... i'd still recommend using a bluetooth... if possible, get the Jabra stuff... they have some good noise cancelling stuff.

if something exotic, maybe the Aliph Jawbone?

hey sorry i didn't want a bluetooth headset, i have a altec lansing headset ( model : AHS515 ) headset with mic, so i plug it into my macbook pro audio in jack port, but it seems didn't got and sound detected when i using it. i set everything but can't.......

I've been using my built-in mic for skype-ing and have absolutely no problems with it. In fact the person on the other side told me not to talk so loud So now I have my input volume at around 60%
