I contacted Sky Leong Chang Ker to spray on my kitchen cabinet and repaint my house. We got 3 quotes and his quote is slightly more expensive than the other two. We selected him because we believe on his workmanship and indeed he’s very good at self-promoting on his job and building rapport. He told us that he got cheated RM40,000 by a main-con in Cyberjaya in Feb 2020 before CNY, and no work during MCO period, so he promised to do a very good and efficient job.

We paid 50% deposit and he came and work first day and requested another 20% because ‘his mother is sick’ and need more money urgently. Of course we refuse to pay and guest what, he disappeared on 2nd day. We called and he was very LCLY saying he’s busy and started another work already. Ask us to wait ‘few days’ after he finish his job first because he need money. On the same conversation he even requested RM2000 for him to come over to finish up the job! Just beware of this 骗子 contractor Sky Leong Chang Ker 0169722533.

Be sure to get his quotation with his company stated on the 50% deposit and remaining upon completion of work. If you do, bring the company quotation with letter head and lodge a report to the police for a record for any action you would want to take against him in the near future.

around 20% maximum.. to start work.. (normally I just give 10% like that only)

then payment given as work progress....

For renovation work and repainting 40% to 50 % is common practice for contractors to start their works. Unless those contractors that know you in person. Materials and labours aren't cheap.

let me tell u..
did my renovation recently...

total cost around 35k..
gave initial "deposit" of 5k first.. to "booking" all the materials & labours...
then each week as work progress 6k each week until work done..

this my way.. U don't like. I go find another contractor...
there's many willing to accept this condition.. if u look harder...

If is common, people get cheated.

This type of news is not the first and wont be the last.

I pay RM0 upfront for my reno and all payment based on progress work.

Materials and labour expensive are all agreed in the job scope. To start work, contractor dont buy 50% of raw materials and labour are not paid in advance.

Within the 1st week of starting work, I paid him 20%. If he dont have capital, susah to do business.

Contractors collect high dp is because they need to settle outstanding debt with hardware shops, otherwise they wont be able to get further credit.

Well true.. those asking high DP sure are paying for previous job debts..... That why always pick the right person with good history... I mean reference from family or friends when u pick up contractor.. can see their work quality too 👍 that how I pick mine.. it's from friends of mine... So far so good.. just that he very busy.. anything renovation, must booking few month advance...
