24 vs 27 for gaming?, budget monitor recommendation

For a smoother gaming experience get a 144 hz 1080p screen if got budget. 24 or 27 inch depends if you want a bigger viewing area, the resolution at this two sizes are fine , you wont even notice the difference. AOC is a pretty good budget brand that you can look into.
