hello everyone,

am in the midst of upgrading my PC (Ryzen 3300x + RX 470 or 580) and want to have a decent screen as well. Budget for monitor is 600-800 but of course trying to keep my spending as low as possible, unless there is going to be a big visual difference/future proof.

Initially planning to go for 24' VA 144hz screens at around RM600 price range.. but have preferrence to curved screen + heard many people say is better to go for IPS.. any recommendations?

Im aware that 27' should go for 1440p but that jacks up the cost alot. was thinking of getting used if i can find a good 27' one.

Your card may not handle 1440p gaming unless with reduced graphical settings... Personally I'd just stick with 1080p 24 inch instead icon_idea.gif

Personally, IMO, the monitor is what I'll be staring at all day, hence I would not cheap out on a good monitor.

27" would allow you to see much more, compared to 24". You'll feel more immersed playing games on a bigger screen.

For 27", go for 1080p, 144Hz, IPS panel, cost around RM800-RM1000.

For a smoother gaming experience get a 144 hz 1080p screen if got budget. 24 or 27 inch depends if you want a bigger viewing area, the resolution at this two sizes are fine , you wont even notice the difference. AOC is a pretty good budget brand that you can look into.

I would prefer higher refresh rate compared to higher resolution as it feels way smoother. My perefrence is 27 inch 1080p 144 hz

thanks for the recomendation! I found a similar option from Acer at about rm6xx!

For all, is the difference between VA & IPS a big difference for budget monitors like these?

IPS monitors produce best colour (IPS > VA > TN), but suffers in contrast performance (VA > IPS > TN), typical contrast ratio found in IPS panels is around 800:1 to 1500:1.
VA monitors produce best black level when compare between each type of back-lit LCD panel mentioned above. typical contrast ratio is about 2000:1 to 4000:1. can also produce good colour perf. but the drawback of it is black smearing (black ghosting) caused by slow response time in black transition, but depends on the panel quality too. https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrac...ck_smear_on_va/
TN panel has better response time (TN ~> IPS > VA), but suffers in everything else e.g. colour, black level (typical 500 - 800:1), viewing angle. also, newer IPS panels are already catching up to TN's response time. this type of panel is basically useless now.
