Back then Motorola unable to deliver higher clock speed processor Apple seek. So goodbye Motorola.

So now is Intel turn.

We've seen Intel dragging Apple with their product refresh cycle, chip issues and etc. Maybe it is good Apple can finally do what they want all in-house.

I doubt economies of scale has anything to do with it as they are already producing massive amount of it for their phones and tablets. If economies of scale would even be a factor they wouldn't have embarked on it at all.

Yeah, in all probability the move to Apple Silicon is just Apple being Apple biggrin.gif

Anyways, if their class-leading iPhone A-series Bionic chips are anything to go by, they should know what they are doing. It’s just a bummer if indeed Bootcamp won’t be able to run on future Macs.

if they said 2 years transition, meaning eventually all will move to apple silicon i supposed. so they should have the suitable SoC for Mac Pro by then also? I believe apple is capable of coming out SoC that can fit it.

So what is going to happen to those apple with intel chips after that 2 years? Are they still usable?

Of course still usable. And they will still be able to receive new macOS update.

Intel Delays 7-Nanometer Chips Until Late 2022 or Early 2023

Apple timed their announcement of moving to Apple Silicon well. Intel just looks silly at this point. By the time they release their 7nm chips, all Macs would have transitioned to Apple’s own 5nm chips.

intel is too slow in the game. and their performance improve in their CPU totally cannot catch up with apple one.

if apple continues to rely on them, it will be like nokia last time slow in moving and eventually die off. haha.

Also with the way things are moving, it is likely that users will be less reliant on Windows OS, thus the lack of a bootcamp will be much less of a factor
*
yeah. last time i am using my own macbook for work purpose. so windows is a must (bootcamp).

now i no longer need to do so since i am using my office laptop for work purpose instead.

so moving forward, i think i should be able to sustain with macOS alone for personal computer usage.

worst case scenario i can just use vmware fusion since i have free copy of it yearly.

anyway, macbook is a capable machine, one can easily use it for 10 years, for those who have macbook already is unlikely to change it so soon, they still have long time to consider or transit to Apple Silicon.
