Hello everyone, I've started this topic because I can't seem to find a thread that discusses about lavalier mic for vlog or videography purpose.

I'm actually seeking for one now and I'm not sure if I should go for a wired or wireless one. I plan to do some vlog at some time soon and I don't want to make a wrong purchase on a mic.

It will be used on my Micro Four Thirds Lumix camera.

For a country that rains on and off frequently, I had the thought that the long wire touching the ground and getting wet would not be a good idea.

At the same time, there's no reliable and reasonably priced wireless lavalier mic, or at least I don't know how to search well enough on that.

Could anyone advice on this?

Would definitely appreciate some sharing and thoughts on wired vs wireless lavalier mics.

Rode if you have the budget.
Boya being the cheaper alternative.
Both available in lazada.

Shotgun mic also an option depending on how you shoot.

Would you be recommending wireless or wired?

I'm new to this so I'm really unsure about it.

Its just a matter of convenience. You can try wired and if really cannot, get the wireless module later. You'll be using the same lav mic anyway.

Oh I see, I didn't know the wired version can be plugged to the wireless module. If it can be reused that way, then it's ok for me to go for a wired one first.

Was browsing around and came across this Boya M1 or Boya M1 pro, don't know how to compare properly though.

Took your advice and decided to go with Boya first, Rode is professional and quite pricey.

i'm sure what your budget is but i was looking for one as well and came across the rode wireless Go compact system. It just launched this year and seems pretty good. Reviews by people who are using it are good but somehow all those professional sites with camera and its equipment review doesnt seem to be much if any at all.

At around RM 800+. Its an investment but if you are looking long term for it, it can be quite good.

Yes I saw this too but this was out of budget. I'm still so new in this and I wanted to try something more budget friendly within RM300.

I came across this, and the reviews seem to be good. Has anyone tried this yet?

Dang, it only costs RM119, so reasonable!

I still prefer Sennheiser - practically zero interference and clean crisp sounds

Not sure if it helps, but you can click into my youtube video (in my siggy) for real life example Boya BY M1 audio test, with no post-production alteration of the sound.

Also just to note this is wired tho. Recorded it on my iPhone 11.

Cheers!

Hey, I've just watched your video, audio is clear and good rclxms.gif

I've decided to try the Xtuga X-CM01 as I would likely do videos outside instead of indoors.

Bloody cheap and I've seen reviews that mention it actually performs well.

Will feedback once I've tried it out in the weeks to come!

Wireless mic setup are getting cheaper now
Rode wireless go , saramonic (cant remember model) & comica came out with small wireless mic setup that is good enuf.

but those are smaller compact ones compared to sennheiser g series or rodelink or sony counterpart.

depends on your budget and requirement
i personally have the rode wireless go , and has been good.

a friend of mine bought the saramonic and comica, as they had dual transmitter / two mic - one receiver , so you can mic up two person at once.

but for a start, as you mentioned lav mic
start with an affordable good one
i would suggest to get the Zoom Lav mic LMF02 iinm that usually comes with their zoom f1 recorder, last i boug was rm90+ (on sale at the time) which was really cheap and good.

if u looking for a phone, rode smartlav+ is good
but cost double than zoom, and if u need to use on camera , u'll need TRRS-TRS adapter.
when shooting, just plug the smartlav on your phone
record audio thru your phone and sync in post.

TL;DR
buy zoom lav mic LMF2 for camera
buy rode smartlav+ for smartphone
wireless for convenience of not syncing audio in post

Might actually look for Rode entry level shotgun mic (was it video micro something), wired feels annoying at times haha
