Are plastic keycaps subjected to import tax? I'm asking because any import above value of RM500 may be subjected to tax and GMK groupbuys are usually ~RM500.

I don't have a Mac. Is this common (even on other brands)?

This macro pad is dope. Hope there are more makers for this. I'm looking for one.

Oh yes, im looking forward to your finding. Im not particular on sound & feel, but the durock/everglide stab wobble is driving me crazy. Im waiting for better stabs before re-doing my keyboards, Stabies got my attention; Owlstabs im not really trusting it.

You can try Holee modding but instead of plaster, try UHMW tape. Owlstabs is just gimmick imo.

i don't like things that are playing hard to get so i just skip stabies for now hehe
*
It's not really playing hard to get though, it's pretty much still in beta phase with the first sale like an open beta and they will be making further changes to it. Also there's literally no Asian vendor for it. They've tried contacting iLumkb but no idea how that's going. I've heard Zion will be selling them though, just not sure when.

Where do we get UHMW tape though?  hmm.gif

I bought mine off Shopee. Look for 3M 5425 - which I believe is the thinnest one.

If you're looking to buy new stabs you might want to keep an eye out for TX Stabs. Both Rebult and Keys are bringing in soon-ish on Shopee.

Hi, recently looking at coiled cable, by checking the price some of it really not cheap. Is that any advantages, switching the original cable to coiled cable? Or coiled cable is only for aesthetic? Any performance or better connectivity by switching to coiled cable?
*
Purely aesthetic, in fact in terms of raw performance, traditional straight cables with no extra connectors are better. Long coiled cables with extra connectors might not be able to power boards with lots of RGB LEDs.

If anyone is interested in trying TX stabs, it just got restocked on Rebult Keyboards on Shopee. Better be quick if you want some, don't know how long the stocks will last.

Noob here, why and what's the advantage of coil/aviator cable?

Aesthetics only. No advantage, in fact got disadvantage.

anyone tried owlab stab???

Owl stabs is all hype no substance. Selling point is being touted as the solution to bent wires, said to be the cause of ticking, by using what they call "liquid metal" wire that reverts back into shape like a memory foam therefore never "bending". Except for when it comes out of the factory "bent" or "not straight", but because it always "reverts back into shape" it will always be "bent" and not fixable.

Cherry clip-in = OG Cherry, always good if you know what you are doing, need to clip legs, cheapest of them all i believe

C3 = Comes in a wide variety of colours to match your build, cheap, widely available, v3 comes with a lot of additional goodies to mod your stabs

Durock/Everglide/JWK = Better than C3 from my experience but more expensive, widely available, could benefit from additional modding (holee mod) but downside is mushiness if not done perfectly, ticking do come back in some cases (without holee mod) after some time

TX clip-in = Stem is made of double shot with TPU mixture (soft material) on the inside to minimise rattle, think of it like a holee mod but built in without the mushy feeling of holee mod, clip-in is easier to install, not as readily available as quite new and still hype so it sells out but I've seen it remain in stock for weeks after restock

Staebies = Tightest tolerance of all, probably the best stab to use without lube, it will be tick free even with just a little lube, due to it's extremely tight tolerance there are reports of cracked keycap stems (very rare) and incompatibility with warped keycaps, bent PCBs and long pole stem switches. Biggest downside is it's almost always never available since it's technically still in beta and is the most expensive.

My go-to right now is TX because it is the best imo among stabs i can actually get my hands on.

nice ... thanks for sharing

btw not all above is the screw in type right?
*
Only Cherry and TX are clip-ins, the rest are screw-ins, but they are all PCB mounted. I believe there are Cherry screw-ins too but I've never tried them. And for your information clip-ins doesn't necessarily mean worse, plenty of people still prefer clip-ins for its ease of use.

QUOTE(horns @ Jun 8 2022, 08:57 PM)
however, i think tx stabilizers are overpackaged. these days, a lot of stuff are overpackaged. it has become a trend that we pay more for stuff that are meant to be thrown away. also, nice packaging doesn't guarantee qualities of the products. for instance, switches. since when should we be worried about bent pins, and need a pretty packaging box to protect them? it's common to have bent pins for switches. they can be fixed with just a pair of tweezers. unless you're doing everything wrong, switches are one of the more durable parts in a board. they don't break because of mere bent pins.
*
True. But the justification is also to properly protect the wires from bending during transport. I don't mind spending a little more for that. However, the outer paper box is biodegradable which is fine but unfortunately the foam holding the stabs are not.

Fixing bent wires is just a pain in the arse. Some people would just buy a bunch of cheaper wires and just discard the bad ones, which in itself is a waste of materials.

it's just my own opinion about overpackaged products. there are much cheaper ways to package stuff for transport, since back in the days, when zeal/gmk/cherry stabilizers were considered as better options.

i just wish they spend more to make products with better materials and qualities, instead of packaging.

fixing bent wires is part of the basic skills that we should learn imo, so that we can still proceed even when conditions of what we got is less than optimal. i also use cheap wires for stabilizers. none is wasted so far hehe
*
Not sure how you are using Zeal as an example here. It's far more underpackaged at a far higher price. Zeal has always been extremely overpriced.

TX Stabs costs around RM79 on Shopee? Other popular stabs like Durock and C3 costs about RM65-70. The price difference is minimal especially considering their improvements over the other stabs.

OG GMK/Cherry stabs are much cheaper but also an unfair comparison considering economies of scale. At that price point the price difference is not just because of packaging but mostly because of production volume. No other decent stabiliser can compete, in terms of price point, no matter how simple their packaging and that says it all really.

When you say better materials? What do you mean really? Use another plastic composite? Not use TPU for the stem inserts?

yes, by better materials, i mean the materials used to make stabilizers, which consist of housing, stems, and wires.
*
What materials exactly? How can they make it better? Genuinely curious because you make it sound like they are doing something wrong there and they should be using some other materials?

This is a pretty good pre-built option for beginners/everyday non-enthusiast users.

RM610

PCB mounted stabs

PBT keycaps

Hot-swappable (Cherry Red/Brown/Silent Red options)

USB-C (comes with cable)

Wireless (1000 mAh battery)

Gasket mount

PC plate

This is better value than all gamer brand keebs

yeap, I am using Iqunix f97

then just swap the switch with one in another position, for example the U key

if your U key now exhibits the same problem instead of the Y key then you know it is the switch so you can just replace it with a new one
