I'd wait untill a few more year. The price does not reflect the usability of these drives yet, even tho from rumours and sites HD-DVD is the more reliable one.

Of course its not affordable because its still new to the market. Wait for next few years, sure it will become affordable. Better get external hardisk.

Sony never learn from their mistake, look at the video format wars, the digital camera wars, and the audio format wars, Sony lost all of them.

Only the problem with Sony is that they make good product, but don't know how to sell it.

I predict that BlueRay will go in the way of the Betamax, because everything I see about Sony and BlueRay is nothing but dejavu.

My Vote goes to HD, not because I think I don't like Sony, which I do, but because in the end, everything will be out in HD. Besides, it is usually not often to find cases to burn stuff on DVD of that kind of size.

Depends on who wins the format wars. At the end of the day, content(movies etc) will sell the drives.

A bit of trivia here - one of the reasons betamax died was because sony didn't allow porn on betamax smile.gif

Format wise, I'd prefer BlueRay. just like how I like Sony's ATRAC. The more expensive price tag on Sony's products are worth it.

Just like riddler2k84 said. Sony makes good products. But they don't know how to sell it.

But when it comes to actually buying the product, I'll just stick around first to see which one wins.

You prefer ATRAC? The dynamics compression is plain horrible.

I prefer HD-DVD-R, media will be a LOT cheaper to produce because you can use existing DVD disc fabs- only need tweaking of materials.

Blue-ray needs whole new fabs, and that alone makes the price of the discs astronomical.

Indeed. Sony is not a good company to have leading a format monopoly. Just recently a new rootkit was discovered in their memory sticks. They just never learn from their mistakes, and they keep trying to subversively lock people into their stuff.

Really? I don't know.
Was using it since a few years ago. The compression rate is good and the quality is also good. Besides, it really does save battery compared to using other audio formats.

Current DVD-RW is more than enough for now. If the price around RM300 and the media cost only RM2-3/piece then can consider affordable.

Recently just read an article about HD-DVD vs BluRay... It says that the one who's going to dominate the market is going the be the one the Porn Industry choses... tongue.gif

Just like what happened to Betamax VS VHS. The VHS format was more preferred by the porn industry... and therefore, it was successful. Only a handful of Studios used Betamax but the market for movies were nothing compared to the Porn industry. laugh.gif
