Hey guys, I wanna ask y'all for any suggestions on university that are good to enroll in their CS program. Of course not the one only famous in the program, I'll also consider their environment, teaching, reputation and etc.

I've put four of my current preferences on the poll.
1) MMU. Many people will suggest MMU when it comes to IT/CS courses. But some ppl said that its quality keeps dropping and not being the top choice in Malaysia already. From what I found, MMU ranked the 2nd among private institutions in THE and QS ranking by subject (Computer Science).

2) UTAR. Ranked 2nd of all the institutions in THE ranking, but didn't have any rank of Computer Science. Heard that UTAR's cert are reputable.

3) XIAMEN. High-ranked university in China. But not sure if the one in Malaysia also has high quality.

4) SUNWAY. Surrounded by lots of entertainment. But the fees are a bit too high for me. Just wanna know if it's worth the price?

*Open suggestions on other institutions if you think they're better.

You need to look into other aspect as well. University ranking is mainly due to high number of academic publications.

Now let's look at the QS World Ranking

University of Melbourne = 38
RMIT University = 238

I have tutored students from RMIT and Uni Melbourne. I would say RMIT is very technical and practical base. Uni Melbourne is very theory (this is why their academic publications is very good).

Now when we talk about real life or in working scenario. RMIT beats Uni Melbourne as they are more hands on. As for Uni Melbourne, they only understand the concept but they can't code. They are more suited to be academic staff

You seriously need to stop caring about rankings that much especially THE or QS rankings. They dont mean anything and is not a real measure of a university's quality. Both MMU and UTAR are good choices.

I get what you mean.
Do you mind elaborate more on why you state that MMU and UTAR are good? Thank you so much.

Just do a simple keyword search at this edu section and you will get plenty of feedbacks from experts/students/alumni and then work from there and ask specific questions

The main reason for you to choose a university is so you can find a job easily after you graduate. Both MMU and UTAR are well known locally and even internationally to some degree. Both have good graduate employability and will allow you to get a job easily provided you do your part and graduate with good results/ resume.

Do not go to APU.

MMU, UTAR, and Xiamen have OK rep for now.

Just my personal opinion,

- UTAR and XIAMEN have good reputation, but I have never really get in touch with them, so I don't have anymore comments.

- MMU, the subjects are easy compared to the other uni, giving you more time to explore yourself and learn stuff outside of the classes, the community there is active and great.

- SUNWAY/MONASH, the courses are good, skimmed through some of the assignments, they are great. The community there is active and great as well.

- UM, the reputation is good, courses are up to date, have a lot of resources for research purpose, definitely top choice.

Care to explain why you couldn't get into UM? Not enough grade/cgpa to enter? CS course not really hard to get into. Usually a lot got CS due to rejected by engineering or Medic in UM. If you are looking for research or AI field, best is UM.

I didn't have an STPM cert, I only have an UEC cert. The government doesn't recognize UEC so... ya, can't enter IPTA.
