I've been always servicing my car honda civic in official honda service center, but since I'm out of warranty recently, thinking to change it outside to save cost. A few question to ask almighty /k

1)I don't vroom vroom my car, what type of oil I need to buy? What brand? And how much?
2)Any good place to buy engine oil(Lazada/shopee?) or straight get from the workshop guy?
3)how much is the normal fee I have to pay?

1) follow manufacturer recommendation, but if you want to switch from semi to full synthetic, just follow the back value of the viscosity (e.g 10w-40, 5w-40, 5w-30)
2) depends, bengkel nowdays i see charge rm15/rm20 for oil change. if bought oil from them, then there is possibility of free labor charge (but oil has been marked up of course)
3)around rm15-rm20 for labor, probably depends on car model, not sure.

Engine oil come with this format

5w-40

The front number (5w) you can safely ignore unless you live in cold climate which we are not

The back number 40 refer is viscosity.
Lighter means like water
Thicker means like condensed milk

Me personally would take ?w-20.
Very light, engine smooth, better FC
People say engine might tear faster
But the pros out weight the cons

For brands just stick to mainstream one, petronas shell etc

Any good quality fully synth oil should do.
follow your manufacturer recommended viscosity.
tesco for cheap original oils, shopee/lazada need to find good reputable seller.

Im using petronas syntium 3000, tried liqui moly, motul, maxx oil but I like petronas more plus support for malayisan brand.

if we don't who will?

open up your booklet

you can either go for semi-syn or full sync if you have budget

any brand should be ok (as long as original) ..but for my case

508 - total full syn
persona - petronas 800?
rx8 - castrol gtx mineral

Whatever brand, go synthetic. And keep the grade same. If its 0-20 use that. Don't change grades. If you can get Honda brand, then get back honda brand.

Many brands and types to choose from, but normally you would either want xW30 or xW40, can't go wrong with either one.

There are top of the range brands and good enough brands, it depends on your need and budget. At the higher tier there are Liqui Moly, Eni, Syntium 7000, Total Quartz, while on the lower end there are Shell Helix, Castrol Magnatec, and other brands you may find.

If you're concerned about them, check the blend at https://engineoil.api.org/Directory/EolcsSearch and see if they meet the minimum standard.

Any cheap oil is ok. Maybe total cost RM100 - oil + labor charges. Straight to workshop.

Actually it doesn't matter. thicker oil is not any better. Its quality of the oil. But not all cars can use 20wt oil.

For most cars, 30wt oil will do fine. DOn't skimp on oil. but don't need expensive oil.

1 of the best is Penzoil ultra platinum. Its because the detergents inside really keeps the engine clean. Good for everyday drive. Its group 3/4. But if your engine is very oil and you are on mineral, do NOT use it. You may face leaking seals. ITs also relatively cheap.

If you dont vroom, you can use
0-20 and 0-30 if your car is new. If not use 5-30 semi.. 10-30 honda oil is mineral.

2)Any good place to buy engine oil(Lazada/shopee?) or straight get from the workshop guy?
If shopee can try dongjintrading or tulensakti. Confirm ori.

3)how much is the normal fee I have to pay?
*
Normal oil change my area is RM10 for small cars. But I think KL around 20 above.
