Hi All,

I am currently Maxis Fibre user (30mbps Astro IPTV Package). Usually on average I get 25-28 mbps, which is fine for me.

Since the Covid and WFH started, there's like 4 family members using the internet at same time (Netflix, VPN Office, TikTok, YouTube, IG, VideoCall) I'm thinking to upgrade to 100mbps with another 24m contract under Astro IPTV latest promo.

Just want to know if any of you actually get the 100mbps or more (300/500mbps) based on your subscribed package??

My location is in Dutamas, KL. Landed house. The difference is RM40 between a 30 and 100mbps package. So it really boils down wether I actually going to get that extra speed and can I reduce the no. of complaints "why the internet so slow".

Thanks guys.

Speed also subject to your device load. May loss 10-30% due to some reasons.

I’m using the ASUS RT AC68U, keep in mind that Astro will not work properly once you switch to a 3rd party router

you can watch live TV but you can’t browse VOD at the same time( you can only do either 1 of this at the same time )

If you are using ultra box? Good luck... you may lose PVR functionality since it requires the internet and Astro/maxis separates them to 2 different Vlans(1 for internet, 1 for IPTV)

How to merge 2 vlan together? I’m also not sure, do share if you know how... only way I know is to use back their router... or separate out and lose IPTV

Go form a group and try to sue TM Wholesale for this.

They intentionally cap your fibre modem to EXACTLY your subscribed plan 30M/100M.

In realtime, the packets that your line carry to transfer data has headers/tails which provide information such as destination address, type as such. This will eat up some 20% of your speed slowing down your plan lower than the speed you subscribed.

Honest ISPs will increase your fibre modem(ONT) cap speed to something higher like 40M/40M for your 30M plan or 120M for your 100M plan to compensate for this extra packet headers giving the full speed you subscribe.

30M and 100M is peanuts to FTTH when its true potential is 2.4Gbps for GPON standard.

Unfairly, TM does caps their Unifi subscribers higher to provide advertised speeds but cap exactly to lower your Maxis/Astro Broadband line speed. They purposely keep quiet about this to leave other ISPs at disadvantage which is an unfair practice.
