Hi all

I’m living at 3storey house I think around >4K sq ft

My WiFi is bad
I’m using original unifi modem and connected to router ASUs

It’s working ok if nearby but other floors and place is bad

I have buy net gear ac1200 but it still not covering the whole house (I put in middle on 2nd floor, only 2nd floor detected)
1st floor detected but internet is bad

I was thinking to get WiFi mesh but I’m not so sure after my experience with net gear because that time I buy net gear around 600 and it doesn’t do much . I’m still using WiFi from ASU’s router stable and faster
Need some suggestion and recommendation

Theoretically is yes... after all, more wifi points = more coverage. But it also depends on the position of the wifi point and design of your house (more walls = less coverage).

I have been using it and loving it. Previously using Wifi extenders. Setup is easy. But the cost is rather high.

Yes, using TP-Link Deco Mesh system and works well. No more roaming around different SSID and stable. If you have LAN backhaul even better.

There is no single router technology today can cover entire your 4 floor house. Still need multiple antenna. Need mesh wifi or just buy repeater for every floor to repeat the signal and this are the most cost effective way. TP Link sell this for RM60 ea. Buy each for every floor even for floor where you put main router. Cheapest solution. Mesh more costly.

Repeaters can get messy too, and definitely not as stable and seamless as mesh. But yes... 1/8 of the cost

True cheap. Stable enough for me. Every room put one repeater towards central core network.

Please understand the pro and cons of between mesh and conventional repeater solution before purchasing. Manage your expectation.

just curious about something:
is net gear ac1200 wifi extender or router? how do you connect? by lan cable or wifi repeater?

what is the router provided by TM?
have you tried either using Asus router or TM router as wifi repeater in 2nd floor?

even tp-link c1200 in ground floor should cover first floor decently, is asus that crap?

Mesh wifi will solve your coverage problem but don't expect super duper fast output speeds from it. Also between placement of the nodes, try to keep them in line of sight or without any blockages such as concrete walls.

Cost, backhaul option, most mesh solutions are proprietary, hence you are locked into the ecosystem.
Multi-brand setup generally don't talk to each other.

actually its 2 1/2 floor..i consider ground floor as 1st floor..
im not sure about wifi repeater/extender because of the netgear. i put netgear at living room beside my room but still connection is bad..it still get connected and all its just i feel its not much better than original router..sometime youtube video would stuck buffering, playing ps4 online is another problem

also isn't wifi repeater is just boosting wifi signal ?

i was thinking about m5 or m4 or another model im not sure ..design like m4 but abit expensive
how was the experience? cover your whole house?

also i watch the setup video..it need tm id/password ? is it the id/password located behind the router? i think i dont remember the id.

my tm modem/router is the orange white i think it was earlier batch from TM, but i changed it to a silver modem if im not mistaken and connected to asus as router
my asus router works fine last time at previous home 2 floor home, doesnt cover whole house but almost all area in rooms works fine. dont remember the model. been using it for almost 10 years i think? 1 year after unifi launch and yes im using the router and netgear repeater in 2nd floor (middle floor), asus router in my room, netgear in living room , and tm modem is at ground floor
i use net gear as wifi repeater, no lan cable connected i just follow the instruction. it shows 2 ssid - 2ghz/5ghz, tried both doesnt seem to work as i expected, maybe i have to move the location im not sure.

how bad was it ?
ok now i noticed 1 thing..i think my asus router is spoilt or aged
i play pc and ps4 connected to asus router which all of this are in the same room
but playing online games is a big problem nowadays..it lag so bad that never i encounter before. at 1st i think it was the game server or something
i have connected my pc and ps4 using lan cable directly from router..and now online is smooth 90% wont be lag
as for phone/tablet doesnt seem to have any issues except for 1 rare time where netflix is pixelated

It's about latency, if you even get 5-10 mbps stable speed but latency is low, will work very well. Trust be get 2-3 of those repeaters, they are cheap. TP-Link, 300 mbps model RM50-60, setup as daisy chained. This is cheapest solution.

Repeater not only boost signal, they act as another fixed fast speed connection hub. This solution works well, the key is repater every floor that you have.

Fancy solution is mesh. I can guid you though to configure any of this setup. Go cheap solution.

Repeater will half your speeds. But I think your problem is that your repeater too far from main.
I'm running Netgear Orbi RBK53. Fastest wifi5 they have. But the upstairs satelite is connected through LAN cable. You dun have that.
Anyway connection by wifi to the other satelite I can get 300+ Mps. off main router is 500+.

I think you should get a wifi6 (ax) mesh and put the router and satelite at the stairwell.
Saw a guy on youtube put his main behind the couch and could still get usable wifi upstairs.

Yes there might potentially be an issue with your router's wifi but needs further troubleshooting. If that is the case as well, try switching out your router and that might also solve your wifi issues. Repeater, Mesh, whichever network you choose then look at the specs closely as some repeater/mesh nodes speak to each other on different bandwidths (e.g. some on the 2.4GHz and some of the 5GHz). If it is the 5GHz, remember that it works less effectively when trying to get the signal through cement walls. You can also download those mobile apps to test the wifi signal strength to keep looking for the best location to place the nodes.

nope, you need to work around on that
Disclaimer! If you don't know what you are doing, please ask someone else who does to do it. Otherwise, you need to pay for TM technician in the event that the settings cannot be recovered.
login to the router page, 192.168.0.1/192.168.1.1 default gateway
default username: admin
default password: admin/password/blank
access to WAN tab, you should be able to find your PPPoE username and password
right click inspect element (shorcut key F12), search for "password" and look for type="password", change into type="text" and enter, your password should be revealed.
you will need to know how to work around on vlan tagging as well if the router does not support Unifi

yes, you should definitely try different location, test the wifi signal strength
honestly, I am quite confused
so the TM btu is at ground floor and your primary router is Asus in first floor, one Netgear extender in the same floor and another Netgear extender in the second floor?
first of all, AC standard was not available ten years ago from now, so anything being extended from your Asus will be capped at 802.11n
having one router and one extender in the same floor seems redundant to me, unless you want to reach wifi from your garden/backyard?
I suppose without connecting the nodes/extender with lan cable, you won't get the max out of them

depends on what plan subscribed to and how many internet users at that time?
it might be the device/player problem, I watch 4k movie from HDD and pixelation happens
