Looking to buy an HP Pavilion laptop due to its value for money but not too sure about its build quality and after-sales service. I heard HP laptops feel plastic-y, has a short battery life and gets hot really quickly.

HP Pavilion are consumer level products, they tend to offer cheaper prices than the higher end models, so the quality is you pay what you get.

I only had one HP laptop before, so no comments on the after sales services.

I owned one before and swore to never purchase HP ever again. Most HP laptops, as beautiful as they are, have heating issues. My experience with their warranty service is unpleasant at best. Never again.

Not just HP, I own many laptops from different brands and all business line and all of them have the same heating issue after prolong use (HP, Dell, Lenovo)

Buy a better laptop that comes with dual fans with several heat pipes if you don't want your laptop to overheat
Pavilion is the lowest end model, can't expect much out of it

HP after sales service in Malaysia is not so good. I once called their support and it got transferred to Bangalore, India. If you want excellent laptop after sales/support, go for Dell. You can't go wrong

Depends what time you call them
If you call during office hour, your call should be answered by local support

Also, why does it matter who answers them? Indian english slang is very easy to understand. Unlike Korean/Japanese/Thailand

HP is not Hewlett Packard
It is known as HIGH PRICE.
These days better stay away from HP
Rather goes to Asus or MSI (ODM not OEM)

HP, Dell, Acer & Lenovo provides onsite support
Whereas ASUS & MSI does not

If your ASUS & MSI laptop is faulty, you have to send it to the service center and have to wait at least 3 days (if you're lucky) to get it fixed
Longer if the part is not available locally and have to be imported from overseas

I'd stay with onsite warranty, where they would go to your place on the next working day to fix the issue onsite rather than sending it back to the service center

I will need on-site support for bulkier items like desktop etc. Other like laptop and others, sending to service center is acceptable provided I love their products so much.

My honest opinion. All laptops are the same. These companies always revise their models very frequently to drive sales. So no one is better than the other.

Used laptops that you can buy today on the other hand is a great indicator to built quality of a particular model. New one today won't have that chance unless it has gone through its warranty course of 1-2 years.

Even then, my serious answer to doubts about brands is, "It is all about how you treat the laptop". In fact i could make a damn article about how laptops are being used incorrectly by everyone. And thats the primary reason it failed. Not because of its brand. Sure you can complain the longevity of the battery is the primary concern. But how many of you even know only a few laptops has "charge limiters" that does not allow the battery to be fully charged all the time that kills the battery?

As a study case, i am using 6 year old Lenovo S410p that was destined to be in trash. My customer gave it to me in non workable condition. I got it repaired, upgraded the memory and SSD and is being used to type this now. The only thing that is not good about it is the worn battery. That could be replaced cheap too.

HP, Lenovo and Acer are not recommended. I would prefer ASUS or Dell in terms of services and their product quality.

I have my experience to share with these brands & top model products for comparison:

HP: Onsite support is OK with sub-contracted company doing it for them. Same as Dell

Lenovo: Onsite engineer to attend. What impressed me was he brought along a spare notebook for user to use when the spare part change couldn't solve the issue. Kinda like BMW lend you a spare car while getting your's repaired knowing it may take longer.

Acer: Onsite support but no spare parts, take back. Call & follow-up discovered spare parts is unavailable & require shipping from overseas. Guess what? 2 months. Top management not going to wait for that long so ordered a different brand to do the work.

Others might argue Acer is good, I agree is good provided it doesn't breakdown if you use carefully. But somehow it is not suitable as business tool when break down happens & need quick solution faced by users to get back to work ASAP.

Lenovo some of my friends also say is crap. I suspect they complained the lower range models that Lenovo did not do good service in regards to their issue. For my business environment ThinkPad & above gets 1st class treatment support all the way.

That is all I want I observed during my career with these brands.

They should blame themselves for not paying extra to get the premier onsite warranty, lepas tu salahkan Lenovo

I've been using ThinkPad, ThinkBook & Legion for several years now in my workplace, all paid extra to get premier onsite support, all cun sahaja their services, no issues whatsoever

The only complain I have about Lenovo is their delivery of laptops, sometimes takes 8 weeks for them to deliver customized laptops
Had that delayed delivery issue with both ThinkPad & ThinkBook shakehead.gif

My bad experience with HP is, in addition to their casing being super fragile , the repair guy actual further damage the casing parts when doing the repair. But this was 10 years ago.

From last year I started seeing and using some cheaper HP laptops that are surprisingly tough, while I had a new medium range Dell Laptop that died on day one.
