I read that this fund is perpetual. Meaning that although there is a call date, the issuer is not under obligation to exercise. If they don't, you can only exit by selling at the market price, which may be higher or lower than the issue price. In a sense, this fund is open ended.

Say if no demand in secondary market and we cant sell out, will hv to stuck with this bond forever since its perpetual?

Yes. And HSBC is in a tonne of pain at the moment, mind you. So be careful.

I managed to get out of my HSBC bonds before the bad news broke, thanks to my broker’s recommendation, even made money on the capital gain. I was lucky.

since this is a fund, fund manager will need to buy back regardless of market demand i think.

I'm puzzled. Not sure if it was fully taken up, but quite sure it's not on day 1. My CIMB banker was still trying to convince me to subscribe a couple of days later when I told her initially I wasn't comfortable with the risk as this "fund" is subscribing to the HSBC(an entity with some problem lately) perpetual bond on USD(in my view, USD will weaken over time). She was still persuading me saying I can always sell out at the right time, base on market price.

As I didn't pursue further, I am not sure if CIMB is selling it at subscription price or market price. Add on the sale charge of 2%, buyers may still be under water.

Yeah you are right, i bought at RM97 my cost is RM99 still underwater, but i dont buy to sell
My 2 earlier purchases were RM93 and RM94 and it went up to RM103 i did not sell.
i buy to earn its dividend 3+% 6 monthly.
As long as good bargain below RM100 i consider buy
