It's interesting to see someone accuses TS of promoting supplements when TS is literally raising awareness about the harm of 'abusing' supplements. Not sure how that went into his head for him to do such accusation. Stirmling liked this post

QUOTE(angelic88 @ Jun 14 2020, 05:18 PM) Ok, I am here just to chip in for the acid blood myth, I believe none of the people here talks about alkaline/acidic diet, lol. It's about milk, that is acidic due to the presence of lactic acid or in other words, acid-forming food and its counterpart is the alkaline-forming food, will temporarily lower down the blood pH and our body will use the calcium ions available in our bloodstream to pull up the blood pH to normal range through negative feedback and at the same time the calcium from milk will get absorbed into our body back while the existing calcium in our bone will convert into calcium ions to our bloodstream. There been long debated that was a myth since many study does cannot find a conclusion of eating alkaline food/water turn alkaline in our body, as : 1 ) your stomach is very acidic, it will produce more acid when hit with alkaline, else no stomach acids, no food breakdown, so our digestive system doesn't work as direct as expected. 2) our blood pH is balance is very delicate with our organ, so it cannot move too much else it will cause a problem to the body already. Source: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/the-alkaline-diet-myth on the side note. I do agree, it is not simple to reach daily RDA for calcium, but since it will stay in your body, I guess as long as you are not suffering from calcium deficiency its not a must to supplement / follow strictly . QUOTE(angelic88 @ Jun 24 2020, 11:24 PM) Ah I see , I misunderstand these. So it's about "diet-induced ‘low-grade’ metabolic acidosis". It's quite a long read on that, however the effect of acidosis is more prominent when you are woman having postmenstrual / long term meat eating diet like American. Even so the study is a bit inconclusive since it take long to happen and so many factor can affect it result. Surprisingly the way to counter this is to take sodium/potassium bicarbonate(alkaline supplement) instead of extra calcium or just include fruit and vegetable for normal diet. Yes, that is why I mentioned the counterpart of acid-forming food is the alkaline-forming food as it literally does the opposite of what acid-forming food do. And of course, it's usually not a concern for healthy ones because our digestive system has probably adapted to it since ages ago. But one correction to make, our muscles don't always produce lactic acid, they only produce them when our bodies are lacking oxygen which only happens during rapid movements. While non-dairy milk is great too, they just can't provide calcium and protein like dairy milk does, so that's a con of it.While for lactic acidosis , I feel less concerned, I believe our body frequently deal with it since our muscle always produce it. So I feel dairy is not that bad. Or if its a concern, banana milk sound great ! Another matter if your body have underlying issue for any of them causing acidosis because it can't cope with it. |
