in a high rise like your case, the sound in which you think is coming directly from above, may not actually originate from there, or even is the sound you think of.

Expanding materials (infra) within the walls, water moving thru the pipes, etc etc can generate noise. Another unit who has a water pump hard mounted to wall can generate vibration, etc etc.

I once had downstairs neighbor complaint I was dragging furniture across living room... i let him come in & drag each & every furniture he can pickup up to prove there is no such activity or even such furniture which can generate the noise he accused me of. Even condo management told me to not care what he complaint (but I feel to prove a point more useful). No complaints after that, also the hours in which he accused of such activity, physically impossible due to no one in my unit at those hours.
