Why not you all just install Ubuntu on a separate partition and save all the hassles?

because not everyone interested in ubuntu (or if i may say, linux stuff)
and willing to go through all the hassles to install and use a totally new OS (i mean new to user, not new to the world)

but if one is willing to install ubuntu (instead of VMware) then u'll most probably never come back to this thread biggrin.gif

That's the point. Install Ubuntu directly and you don't have the need to come back here.

there is nothing wrong

hmm, i think the alternative offered by blackamikaze is way simpler. install vmware player, run ubuntu, install deluge, run deluge through vmware player.... sry, but i beg to differ. sad.gif

LOL! probably what you said is quite true. well, initially it seems to be easy to just install vmware player and run ubuntu. but gosh, only i realize the tricky part that comes later, which is to transfer downloaded file from ubuntu to windows.

http://www.tanguay.info/web/tutorial.php?i...mLinuxWithSamba
for this one, i have the same problem as others who complained (step 3 and 4). i cant find my workarea icon.

from the other guide using winscp it seems that i can only transfer file from windows to ubuntu aka accessing ubuntu files from windows... but what i want is the opposite way round... but nvm, i'll try to find a solution

I managed to run ubuntu on vmware. sweat.gif sweat.gif The speed is fantastic. Thanks for recommending deluge wink.gif

d(@@)b, you need to install the VMware Tools. If not, then you need to sort of setup an FTP server to FTP your files out to your Windows.

the tools can only be used by vmware workstation and vmware ACE.

http://www.vmware.com/download/desktop_virtualization.html

unless you have other source/ application that you can share? links perhaps?

an ftp server will be a "no no". that would mean double download which is quite wasting time...

FWIW, I use the wubi installer and install ubuntu painlessly on my notebook. It's a bit slow, but it beats having all these copying problems between the VM and host OS (though I also have a VMWare Workstation installed in another machine and have no problems mounting a shared directory using VMTools to copy files back and forth between the VM and Windows, or use WinSCP to transfer files).

hi everyone.. erm... I installed ubuntu via da wmware player & created a fat32 partition solely for ktorrent & shared it... but ktorrent seems to be unable to locate the network's shared folder "smb://bla bla bla..."... unsure.gif is there another way around? to straight store downloaded files in there....?.....
