Alright lyn,

Since many of you have been asking if those high ‘idle’ temps and boosts are normal on Zen2 based chips I though I share a power plan I came across on a German forum which imho has not yet received the attention it deserves.

This plan tries to lower the CPU’s package power during lower power states/tasks such as video streaming and to minimize clock and therefore temperature/fan spikes during idle states.
However, all this is attempted to be done without losing the agility of AMD’s Balanced, Performance, or 3rd party (1usmus) power plans.

To my own delight, these attempts are successfully achieved, which is why I am sharing this power plan.
It should be some real help for our high ambient temps and for those who have less performant cooling or those who simply want to let the CPU run more efficiently.

In order for the plan to work, the following BIOS settings need to be edited (click spoiler):
Please do take care when editing your settings, don’t change other settings if you do not know what you are doing.
Neither sz nor I are liable for any damages.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Those settings are mostly found under Advanced\AMD CBS but this may vary depending on vendor/chipset.
The last 3 settings are not available on all boards.

I know that for quite a few boards Auto already equals Enabled. But it’s not the same for all boards out there.

Should you be looking for comparisons/benchmarks between plans you can refer to the thread of sz (use (google) translate 😉)

Disclaimer: This power plan is created by sz and the original thread can be found HERE. All credits to him.

The current version is V4 (May 8th 2020). Download V4 by clicking HERE.

To install simply run the install.bat select English and proceed. The power plan will be automatically activated.

I will try to keep this thread up to date with the latest plan and help if needed based on my available time.

Great test for this plan comparing it to Ryzen Balanced and sz-V3 [& ESM (ESM = Power Saver Plan)]

Final info; having tested the scheduler changes that came with the latest 2004 update this power plan not really required anymore.

For energy saving you could still use it. But improvements are minor.

I'll close this thread.

Different objectives.
1usmus tried to increase performance while this one mostly focuses on a lower power draw in idle and light loads states... without losing performance compared to amd's ryzen balanced/performance plans.

1usmus' plan is somewhat bugged though. There some applications where you seem to lose performance using it.

Have a shot at this one, it's worth it and even I am using this one despite being on a custom loop without temp or noise issues.

ok cool. let me give this a try.

So what improvements have you noticed with this power plan?

I to put short, it will get rid of the boost when you do not need them. Efficiency improves significantly.

You will notice lower temps in idle or for lighter tasks immediately.

thanks for the recommendation! definitely can see a more stable temp and clock speed under normal usage. instead of the massive spikes in temp and clock speed in the amd ryzen power plan.

i'm really impressed thumbsup.gif

Not so much about idle temps but i like how its more consistent rather than jumpy and spikey for daily use.

Small update:
the scheduler for 2004 win 10 got improved again.
If you are looking for performance and have already updated your windows, you won't need any other power plan than AMD's offerings.

If you are looking for less spikes for low load/'idle' this plan still is your best option.

It doesn't show you why? No list of incompatible system components/software?

I've only updated 1 system and didn't have any issues this time around so I can't help, sorry.
