Hey guys, i found a few solid deals for some gear on eBay. But i was wondering, will i have to pay tax or something once the shipment arrives over here? I had my eyes on an Edwards E-AL-128 guitar which is going fr around $940. Shipping would cost $90. So, overall it would cost $1030, which is around RM3600. So, i just want to know whether i'll have to pay any extra cost over this figure. This would seem a better deal than getting the Alexi LTD sig for around RM6k here. Thanks guys.

try asking the seller to declare the item as a 'gift'.. no tax that way.

p/s: forget any LTD/ESP stuff by local retailers, period. online is the way to go. test in msia, buy online.

I've come to the same conclusion. Some things are marked up way beyond a reasonable amount. I know the stores have to make money too, but a LTD priced like a boutique guitar just turns people off. That's the first thing I noticed when I got back - how overpriced certain things are.

Don't get me wrong, though - there are deals to be found. Maybe I skipped some classes when my lecturer was talking about supply and demand, but is the demand that high that the prices are justified?

That being said, guitarists are known for splashing out tons of money, no questions asked, when they see their dream guitar. And now that he/she owns their "dream guitar", they start to dream of another one.... and so the cycle continues biggrin.gif

eh customs are not that stupid.
they sure dont see many guitars as 'gifts'.
plus since its a gift, you cant really buy insurance, so it might end up as custom's own 'gift'.

oh yea, customs said they get about 20-30 guitars a month coming in from overseas, so not gonna be easy to fool them.

Haha, hopefully better models that aren't too much overpriced. But just wanted to see whether eBay was the best option. It seems so, since i'm set on getting an LTD/Edwards. Darn overpriced GC! vmad.gif

hmm.. probably.. i've only ever bought used stuff thru ebay. i guess it would be harder to pass of a spanking new guiatr as a gift. and u sure insurance can't be bought for items declared as 'gift'? can't be wei.. takkan all give items ship uninsured.

well, from what i understand...
usually insurance is based on the declared value of the item.
you cant declare a value for gifts.

IMO
some gears should go online
and some should buy locally..all of them have pros and cons
