Hari raya puasa is just around the corner. Ayam not muslim, but to cheer anyone passing my condo unit I decided to put on the lip lap LED lights in front of my main entrance door. People all are concerned about covid 19 (including me), so I feel I want everybody to be happy happy.

There is existing electric cable for front light already (connected directly to a pendant lamp). So I decided to detach the pendant light first, then do simple wiring as shown in the illustration, safe or not? Note the cable from the ceiling only got live and neutral.

Attached Image

1. First get an extension cable and cabut the plug
2. Connect live wire to live wire, neutral to neutral, but ground (from the extension cable) left hanging.
3. Connect lampu lip lap to extension cable

Safe or not eh? Please gib advice.

I know the proper way is to convert the cable from the ceiling into an electrical socket, but I don't feel like drilling holes and bother the tenants here during weekend. Maybe will do it myself after MCO and all.

Note:
1. I don't want to be that person who burn down the condo building just right before raya.
2. Also donwan to be fried by electricity and susahkan orang kena pandu ambulance.

-------------

Update:

Done liao.

Actually I cannot find which one is live and neutral wire from the ceiling. My voltage tester macam rosak, dua dua wires show ada current, WTF.
But since the 2 pin plug any direction pun boleh, I hentam je sambung wires from the ceiling to the extension cable. Switch it on for 1 hour and no panas, should be okay I think.

Only after pasang the lights did I realise macam not meriah since the lights are too few lol, should buy another 1 to sambung. Anyway better than nothing, looks nice when lip lap actually.

Actually I did think about cutting the 2-pin socket and connect the 2 wires directly to the ceiling (I have cutter and stripper).
But the LED light punya cable so thin, if I strip the cable I will get around 1mm wires, yes that thin. That is why I decided to use the extension cable in between.

if switch on for long, better check the heat on the thin cable, we don't want fire start from the cable melting.

Checked already before buying, itt is labelled 220-240 V. Also I already tested it with 240V, works fine. Of course got warm a bit.

Never thought about buying battery powered LED before this. Now is too late to order lol.

Converter (aka the controller) is built into lights in between the 2-pin plug and the LED. The controller is the one you picit picit to change the lip lap pattern.

dat controller is both the controller and driver unit combined

if u wanna tap power off the the ceiling lights, jes snipe off the 2-pin plug, get a block connector and join it to the ceiling lights (+ to +, - to -)

That was my original thought, easier that way since I got the wire stripper.

But when I received the light then baru perasan the cable it used like super thin, maybe 1 mm per wire. Doubt that I can strip the cable that thin successfully. Nak sambung to the block connector lagi. So I think the next best thing is to use the extension cable in between. Safe or not liddis?

But yes, will use the extension cable in between. TQ

The lights so sad biggrin.gif
Should self DIY with power supply, Node MCU and 5m Ws2812 led string for more power.

The easiest way are extension cable white color shield appearance , from wall plug straight to the point or add another timer and hassle free on and off
