This post is to solicit help from those who own an Ultra, Exynos version.

I actually want the Snapdragon iteration but now have an offer for a local set which is too good to turn down. I know the shortcomings of the Exynos set. Can live with the comparatively not so good battery life since it is 5000 mAh, so still alright. The other shortfalls I can also deal with. The only thing which is important to me is the line/data/WiFi reception, the signal. How is it? Bearable or not too good? I have the Note 10+ but since this Ultra seems to have more problems, hence my solicitation for inputs.

Would appreciate any advice before I put my money down for the set. TQ all.

Data and line connection is really subjective and hard to comment as its really dependent on where you're living also sweat.gif for me in melaka its pretty good on Maxis, I get 4g in most places and signal even in certain parts of my workplace where my colleagues don't. But I'm not sure if that's a plus point for the phone or for maxis.
WiFi is works fine for me. Not much to complain. IMO since you on note 10+ already why not wait note 20 biggrin.gif next month only. And pretty sure a lot of the kinks with the s20u camera etc should be worked out by then.

Thanks mate.

Firstly, Note 20, from reports, is coming with just the vanilla and ultra versions. This would render the top of the range at a price I probably would not be willing to fork out. If they have a Plus iteration, it may make a difference. And at this juncture, like I said, the offer for the S20 Ultra is too good to refuse.

Coincidentally, I am also on Maxis. Note 10+ though not ideal insofar as signal/line reception is concerned, it still cuts it. But after reading about S20 series being a little inferior to previous models, I just want to have a peace of mind before I put my foot in the door.

Well, I suppose the trade off for the ‘too good to turn away price’ is the perhaps mediocre performance in relation to reception, if at all it actually is.

Bro have you tried the s20 ultra in hand though, camera and all. Esp side by side with your note 10+. There were some people using note 10 comparing with the s20 and were not compelled to switch to s20 ultra. Imho if you're not going to get the sd version of s20u, i find it hard to justify the switch even for costs, unless you profit from it.
*
Not at all, mate. Have not made any direct comparison. And I don’t generally buy to profit from it. I agree about the SD variant. That’s why I posted looking for them, the S series and Note 10+.

Finally, even with the low price offer of the Exynos version, I am still thinking very hard...for that very reason.

In any event, I will cross the bridge when I get to it ie. selecting which phone or which variant I buy eventually, taking into account all factors. I am also having the OnePlus 8 Pro at the corner of my eye. Decisions, decisions.

Hi everyone,

I just bought S20 Exynos variant yesterday. The battery life is very bad, For example, this morning my battery drop around 20% after using 40 minutes (screen using 120hz). I had turn off all the unused settings to optimize battery life. But still get this result. Seek for yourguys advice

Yes, it has been widely documented that the Exynos iteration of Samsung phones in terms of battery life plus a host of other functions leave much to be desired. This is more prevalent in the S20 series somehow. With that said, for new phones generally speaking the battery life will not be good. Only after you have used the phone for a while will it improve. But don’t expect stellar performance as per what is aforestated.

So far i had use for a few mths. No issue with wifi or 4g. I am on Digi now. The GPS also damn good compared to my previous exynos. Cause when i use waze on exynos always lost signal haha . SD version doesn't give me this problem. Must be my car tint. I had no complain on the s20u SD bro.

I am pretty close in getting an S20 Ultra SD(US unit) from one of the local sellers here. Although he has confirmed a few times that they are new and not used or refurbished sets, I somehow am a little sceptical. Yours is a new set and you have no reason to think that it is used or refurbished? Would appreciate your feedback. TQ.

You can use some android or Samsung secret codes to check your phone stats but that will require you to have the phone on hand to do it.
*
When I COD with them, I can ask to do the checks. What are the secret codes, pray tell. TQ.

Thanks. I know some of these codes. But I don’t see any of them is able to help determine whether the unit is new or used/refurbished.

You could check the phone up time and the battery health with the codes above.
*
Yup, I could but if the unit is refurbished, they could have changed the battery and reset those data. In any case, will use some of the codes to check, if not for confirmation, for self-gratification. LOL. Thanks for trying to help. Appreciated.

Then the only option would be to buy through a reputable dealer instead.

Don’t have a lot of options when it comes to Samsung Snapdragon sets. Anyway, for me, it’s a risk worth taking as opposed to buying an Exynos unit.

Agreed. It's a pity US is doing what they are doing to Huawei, otherwise they would have been a formidable challenger to Samsung with their own Kirin chipsets and their absolutely gorgeous phones. I'm loving my GMS-less experience with my Huawei phone right now - 3 full weeks already smile.gif
Also good point. For all the criticism I level at SME, their customer service has been top notched for me whenever I visited them. I wouldn't buy an AP Samsung set too.
*
I am still harbouring the thought of getting a Huawei phone but for an obvious reason, I am holding back.

Since you have one, can I check with you...without side loading GMS, can the following apps be installed and used without problems?

1. Waze
2. WeChat
3. Starbucks
4. Maxis
5. Grab
6. Touch n Go
7. Facebook
8. YouTube

Your feedback is appreciated.
