Hi all, this issue been bothering me for quite sometime. Recently i purchased a Acer Nitro 5 AN515-43-R9B3 come with R5 3550H and RX560x GPU and 4GB 2666Mhz RAM. I installed additional 8GB 2400Mhz RAM to make it total 12GB of RAM but task manager shown 2.1GB as Hardware Reserved. Does Ryzen cpu reserved more ram memory for their integrated Vega 8 comparing to intel cpu? Would like to hear from others owner of Ryzen laptop user.

Do you still getting hardware reserved when installed only the 8GB stick?

Yup, only 5.9GB memory is usable. I searched online and seem like i wasnt the only Ryzen 5 user having this issue. The only solution is upgrade to more RAM as Ryzen CPU will reserved more memory for its integrated Vega gpu compare to intel.

Does't seems like ram issue or 32-bit windows issue.
Try check your manufacturer bios able to modify UMA settings for the integrated graphics.

Check your BIOS for video memory and set it from there. Usually can do on previous laptops and desktop, but not sure about newer comptuer with Ryzon.

The available memory size will be automatically adjusted depending on the workload of your system. But in the case where both system and iGPU need more memory at the same time, the system is the higher priority and will take it all. If you think it is being "stolen" and your system can't use it, you are incorrect. It could manage itself just fine.

Hi, i didnt think the 2.1GB is being "stolen", just feeling curious is it normal for all Ryzen CPU? Cause 2.1GB Hardware reserved quite alot. Of course i am grateful if this setting is able to adjust cause this laptop does have a dedicated RX560X GPU. Because like you said there must be a reason system automatically reserved so much memory for iGPU.

We are not AMD Ryzen engineers. Please contact AMD support team or their engineers directly if you're seeking for a precise reason and answer to that matter.

This is due to reserved memory from the integrated GPU icon_idea.gif

You will need to reduce the usage by changing it from the BIOS, but you might not be able to do so due to BIOS restrictions icon_idea.gif

Seem like upgrading RAM is the only solution. Btw are you a Ryzen laptop owner?

yea, noticed the same 2+GB RAM reserved yesterday after I upgraded my sibling Ryzen laptop. Normally for my Intel based laptop, they only reserved max 1.5GB RAM

I googled around the web, hardware reserved means the RAM might be not compatible with your system and marked as hardware reserved, it's unusable until you replace the RAM with compatible one.

yes. 6GB ram left is still enough for recently usage (if use only 1 ram stick).. and 2GB video ram is not many .. even delicated graphic card with 3GB GDDR5 consider small..
if your notebook can disable the iGPU , then u may get your 2GB back.
mostly, notebook don't have the option to change the gpu ram size(increase or reduce ) .. btw, u still can checking the bios to see if any specific option..

If you have a Lenovo laptop you can actually change the amount of reserved memory for the integrated GPU - but you'll need to update the BIOS first (it's in the settings UMA Frame Buffer) icon_idea.gif

I have a Thinkpad X395 that can do this (once changed you can have something like 7.8GB rather than 5.9GB) icon_idea.gif

Thanks for the feedback. Seem like the only solution is upgrading RAM, anyway i've upgraded my RAM to total 16GB and hardware reserved memory still remain at 2.1GB.
