As per title but I want to elaborate more before people come bashing at me.

I do not know to post this poll in Apple Byte or CodeMasters but since it's mainly hardware, I come here.
I know there's tons of other great Windows machines that can easily beat out Macbooks but I really want a Macbook.
I know I can just install Linux and the terminal works exactly as the MacOS's but there's something here that Linux doesn't, MacOS.
I'm starting to learn up app dev and I need to use a MacOS for compiling the app for iOS/other Apple OS-es.

What I'm doing right now is doing some freelance web app devs and soon to integrate mobile app itself to the web app. So the idea of needing a MacOS is quite crucial to create an Apple app. (Pushing to Testflight and App Store)

Before also bashing me to go with the Air, let me clarify on why I would like the Pro.
1) Better cooling
2) Web apps can be a little demanding on hardware side, so I need something more powerful than the Air.


Do let me know why you choose your poll answer. If possible, do tell me too on which specs do you recommend me to go with more. Thanks!

The 16in is a great machine in every ways but 1, the size is a tad too big. But I'd still go for the 16

Opt for 16 inch if going for i7 or higher. The 13 inch chassis unable to dissipate heat fast resulting in thermal throttling.

No coding background here.
If budget and portability is not an issue, then of course the 16-inch is a better machine than the 13-inch.

1) Macbook Pro 13 uses LPDDR4X RAM while the Macbook Pro 16 uses a DDR4.

I dont think you would need a discrete gpu for compilation or running builds. Perhaps the gpu is useful only when using device simulator as xcode starts to take advantage of the gpu acceleration with Metal.

If you dont mind the smaller screen, I say go for the 10th gen 13 inches ones. It should be plenty enough for your workload and you could save a couple grands. With that, you could spend those on buying extra screens which I think comes super handy.

If u want the best, the obvious choice is 16-inch. That is if price is not a concern and portability is something you can sacrifice for.

Yup agreed. The only thing that people will have to choose between the 13 and 16 is portability and form factor.

I'd personally choose the 16 inch because of the bigger screen ratio and the thinner bezels, which makes it a perfect workstation - I don't mind sacrificing portability, I'll just put it in my bag and go on, won't be carrying it in my hands when moving around - too risky lol.

16" for sure.

One of the main points is a better thermal design.
Macbooks are famously known for running a little warm/hot.

I'd go for 16"! The 13" tends to heat up quite easily, even though it's a lot more portable

Thought of getting the MBP 13 10th gen model RM7549 edu price. MBA is a no no due to the bad thermal design. But then ends up purchase MBP 16 RM8800, larger screen, better GPU and speakers. If only apple comes out with 14'', I would be happy to get that instead

Keep in mind if you are planning to use a 16' MBP with an external monitor with the laptop screen on, the GPU will draw up to 20W power and the fan will ramp up quite a lot... known issue with the MacBook Pro 16 inch... Currently I'm using with Dell U2720Q. only can use in clamshell mode when connected to external display.

I have 13' macbook air and 15' macbook pro. I always use 5-year old 15' even though 13' is brand new. 13' is too small for everything. I will def. buy 16' instead of 13' no matter the spec. But the spec of new 16' is good enough even for work (adobe premier pro, etc)

We have both 13' and 15' Macs in our office, all on i7 CPU with 16gb ram. The way we assign is by type of work done.

All developers have either 1 or 2 external monitors attached to our Macs.

Web and backend developers tends to use the 13' Macs, while mobile developers makes use of the 15' Macs. We find that both Android Studio and Xcode really have a huge performance penalty especially when plugged into external 4k displays when there's no discrete GPU in the mac.

What we find is that for the most part, web and backend stuff (stacks are React, Rails, Go) the primary resource hungry part is RAM and Disk IO, especially when you have a number of docker containers running. CPU is not that much of an issue, assuming that you're on one of the i7 CPUs.
