fuji f31fd, if you can wait till oct, f50fd with IS will come out.
lit-ion battery is superior in every aspect, there is no reason to choose AA now.
prosumer is bulky, and IQ is not better than fuji f31, one of the most important criteria most people overlook is form factor, no camera no pic at all, even you have the best dslr you cant bring it with you all the time, carrying a bulky camera is damn tired too, plus some people get intimidated with formal gears like prosumer/dslr, and you cant take picture with prosumer/dslr inside shopping mall, security guards will stop you, no prob with a small compact camera/.

only get prosumers if you need their superzooms... (i.e, 12x and some models up to 18x zoom)... other advantages seem to me, too small to justify the increase in body size. although it's larger body compared to a normal compact allows me to handhold it a little more steadier...
get a normal compact because of its umm.. compactness... i don't think the f31fd will fit your budget however
also not sure why you want to use AA batteries though...

I see....and all this while I thought those big prosumer cameras have better IQ than normal compact
I prefer those with AA batteries because the availability. In case the batteries die off can easily get replacement.
The f50fd looks promising though..btw how much is the f31fd?
