Saw this hand sanitizer on Mr DIY website. Selling for RM12.90 for 500ml, which is very cheap.

However, based on the description, it contains denatured alcohol which is poisonous compared to ethanol or isopropyl alcohol. WHO recommends either ethanol or USP grade isopropyl alcohol in their hand sanitizer formula.



Anyone tried it? Wondering if this is safe to use

majority hand sanitizer uses denatured ethanol/DEA in hand sanitizer
locally, you won't find undenatured alcohol sanitizer

usually ethanol is denatured (adultered) with 5% methanol

yes, methanol is safe and allowed by NRPA (National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency)

It said hand sanitizer, but doesnt say WHO approved sanitizer. Item must be as good as description else you just complain to seller la.

Thanks. I did some additional reading, and just found out that certain allowable denaturants is recommended in sanitizers to avoid the unintentional ingestion (particularly by children). Also, apparently manufacturers needs to denature ethanol so that is is not drinkable, otherwise it would attract additional taxes in certain countries

alcohol is SUPPOSED to be dirty cheap. if not because of covid you can buy gallons of these at the same price.

Denatured ethanol is commonly used in laboratories for disinfectant purposes.

just make sure u wash ur hand b4 using ur hand to grab food, then ur fine.

use it, its Mr.DIY, if it doesnt work, sue it for millions of dollar, make sure not to buy from somebody who made it at home, they dont have millions of dollar for you to sue.

It doesn't matter what brand or or the price is. Above 70% alcohol is done to kill 99.9% germs. Thats all u should be concerned about.

use the sanitizer then wash ur hand..
else ur hand will have skin crack, which is more worse...

I saw an ad for US$1 (~RM 4.20) per bottle Ethyl Alcohol 70% for 236 ml.
