Hi all bros,
I'll going to Bangkok in another 2 months, and I wish to understand whether wise card can be use contactless via wave or samsung pay or google pay in Thailand or Bangkok specifically. If contactless can be use perfectly, I would apply now and hope it can arrive before April

Contactless feature - yes. Works in Thailand? You can try and let us know?

Wise supports Google Pay and Apple Pay in a lot of countries, except Malaysia for now...

Enjoy your trip.

Only SG Wise card can
*
Non supported on Samsung pay or google pay for MY wise quite troublesome
And their website only show can store Thai Baht, but no indicated can spend via its card or wave

But SG wise website stated clearly can use its card for Thai Baht

No worries, the Visa debit function works globally in most countries. As long as you have enough money in Wise, you can swipe it where Visa is accepted.

Why the emphasis on wave? I've used it overseas at retail stores and made ATM withdrawals using chip and PIN (4 digits), and it works fine.
*
Wave is faster and I'm pretty worried about what will be the reaction of workers if I swipe the wise card at some mini snack store or small restaurant.

Btw according to you, I just need to deposit MYR into wise MY card in Malaysia and convert it into Baht whenever I need to use it when I'm at Bangkok?

you can use your Visa debit as long as there are sufficient funds in your Wise account across all currencies . You don't even need to convert it yourself. I mentioned Wise will auto convert to THB for you. The exchange rate after including conversion fee is typically still better than a money changer or credit card.
*
Thank you for your reply. So I just need to deposit some MYR and let wise operate for me when I need to use THB at Bangkok biggrin.gif

just came back from bkk and used wise as much as I could but there are still a lot of downside that I think they can improve on
but overall its not bad if you don't have a CC with 0 foreign transaction fee
if you do, its better to use the CC instead of wise
*
Can advise any 0 foreign transaction fee CC?

Can change country at wise app but it can't save.

Then I go to wise website change the country and it can save and update.
Create virtual card then add it to google wallet.
Ta-Da~ It works.

Very interesting to see the UK wise interface is different.
It can hold money as stock or interest earning fund some more.
*
So did you actually pay using wise UK via google wallet?
I'm thinking whether it will convert MYR to UK and back to MYR when trigger google pay dry.gif

Btw, does anyone make samsung pay works?

Just tried this and it works! So cool. Using on my Samsung s22.
*
So it deducts your MYR directly even using UK wise digital card without incurring additional charges?

No additional charge. If there is, it doesn't make sense as a multi currency account anymore. I spend in Malaysia, it should deduct my MYR inside the account.
*
Thank you for your answer. I'd been confused about this bypassing the limitation of the country.

Okay guys help me make sure my calculation is correct.

Money exchanger in Kuching quoted me 100 baht = 13.38 myr

In wise it's 12.96 myr to 100 Thai baht

So by comparing,

7000 Thai baht by money exchanger rate it's myr 936.6 myr

If I withdraw 7000 Thai baht through wise in Thailand plus their 220 baht atm transaction fee it's 907 plus 28 myr.

So... My as well I choose money exhanger right
*
But RM936.6 can convert THB 7,185.70 after fee
So why don't you just convert in wise app and use at Thailand locally?

And 100/13.38 = 7.4738 which quite low rate

Because it might be where goes in Thailand quite remote and doesn’t have much access to payment machines and ATMs hence why he is carrying cash 🤦‍♀️
*
Probably, but can save the cost by bring cash from MY to Thailand
Some more, is it true the rate is as low as 7.47 something now?
I'm going to Bangkok next few days and deciding how much need to allocate in cash/wise/HLB

You need to check live rates but anything above 7.50 is consider quite attractive

But money changer in EM will be expensive due to carrying costs from the FX currencies they are holding on hand
*
Indeed
I used wise live rate conversion to demonstrate how much THB can get from RM 936.6 after fee
I'll check rate again on next Monday or Tuesday then decide how much i should allocate into cash/wise/HLB

But i have no physical card on hand, as it haven't reach me. I just use google pay and cash in the worst case

Stay away from HLB MCA as they are changing bank rates with 2% spread 🤦‍♀️

Better use BigPay instead or TnG Visa card if you either those
*
2% spread? Meaning what i see is not what i get in the HLB MCA? There is one day rate of HLB better than wise sad.gif

This is today rate when i check on HLB connect. Is it the THB amount will i get if i buy RM1000 from it?

Conversion rate and final rate is different rate because the rate above is before charges 🤦‍♀️

After you go next check again the rate because I am sure the rate should not be higher than 7700 thb if you use live prices because HLB would have at least taken 40-50 to baht as the fees
*

I tried RM1 and click next. Only need me to authorise and THB 7.67 is inside my account

Then you already paid 0.04 baht as fees already as it is deducted

You only need to compare with actual live rates because you should be getting 7.71 instead

Which means you are getting less from HLB and why on earth converting so little when you cannot get anything for less than 50 baht 🤦‍♀️
*
HLB: RM1000 can get THB7674.80 despite rate is 7.6748
WISE: RM1000 can get THB7,654.20 despite rate is 7.70699

I know the rate is better in wise, but i get less amount when converting in wise at the end.
We should focus on what we get at the end, right?

PS: RM1 is just for demonstration biggrin.gif

RHB gives the best rate, better than even Wise and HLB to convert to USD.

MYR to 1000USD

RHB MCA: RM4442.00
HLB Wallet: RM4464.30
Wise: RM4455

Best rate but you'll get less amount in hand at the end
Why not choose HLB which gives you RM4464.30? dry.gif

This is converting RM to USD. The amount needed in ringgit to get 1000usd.

The less ringgit, the better.
