Hello new to wise here.
Just got my green transfer wise physical card.

I'm heading to Japan soon.

If Ioad 100k yen, when I spend in Japan credit card machine, will it auto deduct the yen and leave my myr untouch?

need help. I tried to transfer my MYR from my wise account to maybank last night but the transfer is still processing. It's weird, normally it will take seconds to complete.

got an email stated they need a little more time to transfer? anyone encountered this issue before?

From the few recent posts I read, we dont really have to convert some amount into say, Baht, before we start spending in Thailand?

The MYR that is in the account, will be deducted once we transact, assuming there's no other currencies in the account?

If I have both MYR and Baht, spending in Thailand will automatically deduct from Baht account first?

If I have 3 currencies, say MYR, Baht and USD, while shopping, my Baht runs to zero, the extra amount to be deducted or the next transaction will be deducted from MYR? It won't simply deduct from any funded currency account right?

My partner isn't able to use the contactless function to pay in Bangkok, despite the feature being enabled in the app. Is that the norm for Thailand?

For me it works both in Malaysia and Singapore thru contactless. In MY I've used it in convenience stores such as FamilyMart, MyNews and in SG I used it on the MRT, restaurants, supermarkets and convenience store, all works well.

Everything is on it's default setting. One thing you can try is to change the spending limit to maximum under Manage > Account Limits > Contactless (this flow is for iOS) and maybe that might trigger the system to allow contactless. It's also worth noting my card is new, I am new to Wise and received my card in November. If all else fails, maybe can try contacting their support team and tell them that the contactless on the card is faulty.

So I did some testing with the contactless, and if my assumption is right, it might be down to the actual card terminal (or bank acceptance?). I tried at 2 places recently, one at KK Supermart and another one in the same FamilyMart as my previous post. KK was using a Public Bank terminal which looks like this.



While FamilyMart's terminal is like this (machine with keypad, issued by Maybank).



I have not tried at any other places, or ones with more modern terminals (touch screen and e-wallet compatible). When I tried at KK, contactless did indeed fail, however at FamilyMart it was a success. Do you guys recall which banks terminal you interfaced with when making payment?

Hmm...but shouldnt WAVE be standard? I use SamsungPAY and never have a single problem. I will try use it the next few days.

That's really weird that MRT didn't work for you when it did for me. May I know if you had SGD in your Wise account prior to entering the MRT? Or are you only holding MYR and doing on the fly conversion? In my case, I converted my MYR to SGD prior to tapping anywhere. Also, it did a "pre-auth" check (charged SGD 0) when I first tapped my card, then it only charges the amount on the next day. Attached are screenshots of my transactions. Note that I only used the MRT, and don't have experience for bus.

Hi, guys I'm planning to use my wise debit card for the first time in sg. I plan to just deposit money in RM to my account and use the debit card in SG.

Is there anything I need to be aware of? Is this the best practice to avoid high fees?

What is the error message? 🤦‍♀️ if it is incompatible it might the device is not supported or Wise for Samsung Pay is not available yet in the country you try to pay

But if you use Wise in UK with Samsung Pay no problems so just wait because it is likely due to pending BNM approval 🤦‍♀️

Just sharing, i created a virtual card on Wise by changing the region to the UK and added it to Apple Pay, used the virtual card to pay in Malaysia, Sweden and Finland at 100% success rate.

But i heard that is not a favorable workaround.

Answered above 💯 like I said previously, I'm gambling that Yen will strengthen, hence the jar... The amount I kept there likely won't fund my whole Japan trip so I can be flexible to figure out how I want to get the rest later. Here are a few ways I can think of:
- online purchase: in my previous trips, I went to Japanese websites to transact some tickets and stuff in Yen.
- cashless payments: it works just like your credit cards (MasterCard or Visa), so any merchant accepting those will be ok with Wise. Paywave is a hit or miss though..., it didn't work for me in the Netherlands, worked in Singapore, don't know about Japan.
- withdraw ATM, as you said: but I feel more comfortable prepping cash from Malaysia before touching down in Japan, so I probably won't use this feature... But if I do run low on yen in all my (e-)wallets, I can always reload Yen in either Wise or Bigpay.
