I will only be there for short trip, looks like UnionPay is not worth the hassle as there is no guarantee it will work either. Looks like sufficient amount of cash is a must. What about if i pay direct with QRCode from my Maybank? Does it have 3% charge also?
*

3% foreign transaction fee is coming from Alipay and WeChat Pay only (when it is linked with international bank cards). This rule isn't applicable for payments made by other methods, such as Maybank MAE app and TnG ewallet.

Hi sifus, I just transferred MYR from Maybank to the JP Morgan Chase MYR account in my Wise (Malaysia address). Money is deducted from my MBB account but still not appearing in my Wise. I am currently in the UK if it matters, but shouldn't this be instant transfer?

As of now 2 hours since transaction.

I see, looks like need to wait until Monday. I did try doing FPX but I'm not able to approve my Secure2u, for some reason it is not showing up on my phone even after I tapped into MAE app. Don't know if its bcuz I'm in UK right now? But Secure2u is not working for me, using IOS.

Hi I’m going Korea Daegu to be exact
I have physical and virtual wise card

Is it a better choice to stick to using wise for all card transactions and also cash withdrawal using wise there?
Or use Amex krisflyer that I have and for cash withdrawing using Maybank card that I have and activated for overseas

Which is the better option

Maybank Amex is probably the worst for oversea use, Maybank charges high fees, and Amex has terrible forex rates.

If you're comparing just between Wise and Maybank Amex, Wise is definitely the better choice.

You can read more directly from Wise about ATMs in Korea.

Just back from China and must say AliPay combo Wise Card (Provide you have exchange foreign money - CNY with good exchange rate) is good biggrin.gif

TNG AliPay+ also good for small purchase as there is this RM0.99 voucher that provide you RM10 worth of cash back.

But wife forgot to ask merchant to separate into CNY200/ trax when she purchased a 300+ clothing sweat.gif where AliPay will charge extra 3% if exceed CNY200.01

Haha you didn't try SarawakPay (Unionpay QR) to pay merchants.

My wife registered that one but never use, lol ...

I exchanged my CNY rate in WISE at 1.68~1.69 that time so just keep using AP + Wise combination

Also, there's this TNG promo also for 5% off (max capped CNY15) too which also not bad.
Last week rate for TNG mostly 1.60~1.61

Alipay n Weixin Pay for foreigners is hit n miss due to restrictions on peer to peer transfer. Cash is better in China. Japan can get by with minimal cash.

Does Japan subway accept typical credit/debit/wise card to go through turnstile?
