Today I first time opened the compressor and check out where is the capacitor and it specs! Unfortunately, it seems has no details at all! What's your guess for 1HP York Aircond?

QUOTE(ihavenoidea @ Apr 30 2020, 09:36 PM) QUOTE(GOPI56 @ Apr 30 2020, 09:37 PM) Thanks guys!noted. In fact, nothing written on it! strange?! QUOTE(akoola @ Apr 30 2020, 09:40 PM) Yeap, the 2nd one.be sure to replace with the original one.last time at my workplace the service men replace with plastic one, cheap, but later it melted Oh...got it! QUOTE(hr_elie @ Apr 30 2020, 09:41 PM) But this seems not the one they mentioned above?! What is this blackie (work as?)QUOTE(narf03 @ Apr 30 2020, 09:47 PM) Ok.will discharge |

QUOTE(ihavenoidea @ May 1 2020, 04:04 AM) the black 1 is the fan capacitor, the silver 1 is the compressor capacitor, did you removed the silver thing and checked it? Oh...got it now! I did not remove. Should I?and any procedures for security reasons?QUOTE(Richard @ May 1 2020, 06:01 AM) You might as well replace both fan & compressor motor capacitors since you've already opened it up.. Ok. Will find the black (fan) capacitor! So must stick on 450v? I found a 250v 2uf capacitor! Not suitable?Btw did you test the capacitance for those caps? The fan motor cap should be 2 uF & the compressor motor cap 30uF both rated 450V or higher.. How to test the capacitor with a cheap multimeter? |

QUOTE(Richard @ May 3 2020, 02:57 PM) Most multimeter has a capacitance measurement except for the really el-cheapo ones.. Wow...this is so "deep"! Haha. The pins should be OL(open loop), and on a resistance setting should gradually move to infinity (maybe).. Or just buy a cheap Fluke or Uni-T multimeter.. better digital should last you a lifetime.. Note* AC voltage is sinisoidal 334V pp maybe fluctuations higher a bit so the very least make sure the caps you get higher rated.. QUOTE(amco @ May 4 2020, 01:13 AM) Fan capacitor (black plastic) : 2.0 uF 450V Ok. Noted! In fact, mind to show me the step to replace it?Compressor 1hp (silver big cap) : 25-30uF 450V Remember can replace with higher uF but not lower than original |

QUOTE(Richard @ May 4 2020, 07:47 AM) No.. it won't.. this is mains voltage.. Oh... thanks for such pro explanation!cool. Does it mean, capacitor value should be (better to have) the double value of main current (220-250)? So 450v acceptable in this case?230V AC voltage is the rms value(average if u like).. AC voltage is not a constant like a battery DC voltage, it is a sinosoidal waveform at 50 times/sec (Hz).. with peak to peak values of about 340Volts.. Replacing a 250V rated capacitor to a 230V ac mains supply will soon heat up and damaged .. you must use a 450V rated capacitor and a proper metalised type if for the start/stop compressor motor.. (heat dissipation) The fan motor u can use the correct rated polypropylene cap 450V or higher (never less) QUOTE(tehoaislimau @ May 4 2020, 08:23 AM) What symptoms on the aircond would be seen if there is a capacitor problem? Not cold then yellow LED (timer) flashing! Check on Compressor,no more activity. But when you restart it,it came back. But soon it'll then totally not functioning!Cannot start? Aircond not cold? QUOTE(Relaxing work @ May 4 2020, 08:23 AM) Becareful to Isolate all the power supply before working on this. Oh... Heard about this! They called it discharge , right? Some mentioned to use light bulb or screw driver (with rubber handle) to discharge the capacitor! So, as you mentioned, let it sit for 5 mins (Power Off) will do?Some capacitor still store charges after switching off. Just let it in the OFF position for about 5 minutes before touching it. |
