Thanks for the useful information and yup i always top up engine oil every 1.5 months.
To be honest i am happy when driving this manual vios because i like the tarik feel which is conventional or CTV gearbox cant delivery it
At this uncertain economic and pandemic situation changing a new car will definitely put on hold.
Lastly my vios aircon blower problem already cant spin at consistent speed, i was thinking buy from lazada and install it by myself hope the job is not difficult & searchable at youtube video. thanks

from photo doesn't look like that was the major cause of leak until half oil gone. leak from top cover is minor normally. won't cause oil to be halved. what I suspect more is your engine makan oil already, that mean your valve rings need to be changed. to check just start engine and see tailpipe got smoke or not. or revv a bit and see are there smoke? if got smoke then that's where your oil gone to. just my 2 sen.

Tailpipe got smoke, also smell very bad. I thought that was indicating my engine oil need change already although still got a bit mileage till next oil change. Well, that is a mechanic's work for sure.

sorry OP, tumpang this thread
Was searching for NPC93 vios engine oil leak and found this thread
Mine is 2008 model, vios gen2
started to experience engine oil leak in 2018 , fixed the head gasket leak
then issue solved until Sept 2020, was driving in PLUS highway when suddenly noticed engine warning light, found out that the oil reduced to just below minimal line ( last EO replacement in April2020)
went to TOYOTA SC, was told timing chain cover oil leak
went to outside mechanic, was told possible piston ring need to be changed, so recommended top engine overhaul + fix the timing chain cover leak prob (cost around 1.5k)
the oil reduction rate around 1cm in dipstick after PG-KL-PG trip
car engine power wise, didnt feel any reduction in power, no white smoke also from exhaust but can feel fuel consumption increased past few years
any car sifu can recommend whether to do the top overhaul or just top up the EO every now and then ?

That's too expensive, I own Toyota not Vios though.
Go to good bawah pokok mechanic.

Not sure if bawah pokok can do such repair.

Sc said said they saw the leak during oil change and said it was quite bad. Asked to standby some engine oil for long distance.

Do you know any good toyota specialist workshop in kv?

Timing housing oil leak is a sap sap sui repair.
I'm sure there are plenty of outside workshop in Klang Valley competent enough to do this job at far lower price.
Maybe you should disclose which part of kv is closer to you, so that others can help.
If you don't mind one from Pandamaran Klang, PM me for google address.

Note:I'm from Subang Jaya though, and there are tens of them here.

Edit: You may visit a spare part shop near you purchasing the timing housing kit from them whilst asking them to recommend you a reliable Workshop convenient to you. You would save several hundreds if not 1k or more ,imo.

Thanks so much mate. I'm staying at ampang, so I guess I'll drop by Jalan ipoh for the timing kit.

Does it in any way look something like this:

https://shopee.com.my/product/310462176/801...05-1614320579.9

I hope it's just the gasket that needs to be replaced. Lol

Anyway, thanks again for helping a fellow F&F forumer here.

No, this is timing cover aka timing housing.
I think your timing housing/cover is not crack due to impact which may also lead to oil leaks (though unlikely in your case here), most likely it is the 2 pcs oil seal aka O-ring and.....
gasket seal surrounding the timing housing that leaks.
You need gasket seal that is being removed .....
Attached Image
and also 2 pcs O rings (I think) .....
Attached Image

From 4:23 onwards,

Your SC may have included replacement of Timing Chain Kit/Set which may not be necessary.
A trusted mechanic you know very well would help you save on this, if condition permits.
Replacing timing chain set kit by outside Workshop would still be far lower than 2k, I speculate.

Edit:
The 2 original O Rings shown in 4:55 are cheapo sap sap sui NBR rubber seals IIMNM. Ask for Brown/Orange coloured Viton seal if possible.
It is surely available but whether they wish to help you .....

Hey, thanks for explaining in such great detail.

I bought the parts SC recommended from st part:

VC GASKET
O RING NO 1
O RING NO 2
SEAL PCKING GUM
WATER PUMP
PULLEY
COOLANT
PIPE WTER outlet
TH-ORING
THMOSTAT

Those parts costs rm800...would sending my car to the foreman first cost less?

Anyways, will be sending the car to prestigius auto as recommended by the spare part shop..and the cost to change these parts is about 400-500 using their own seal gum..but I've bought the ori seal gum for rm160.

It does make sense that you might as well replace the water pump assembly .....

Are these two O rings of black colour type, as in Youtube?
If yes, they are cheapo normal NBR materials.

Yes, those are original toyota o-rings according to the parts supplier.. If those can fail prematurely and cause another leak, then i'd ask for viton seals. Thanks so much buddy. Hope this can help a fellow forumer with the same issue as mine notworthy.gif

I believe the 400~500 is workmanship? If they tell you that is just for the seal gum i will be asking what kind of premium gum is that.. laugh.gif

This gasket gum is actually a basic 'tool' provided by all engine repair shops, brands may differ though.

Edit: Your spare part shop is right in suggesting that you need this gasket gum, but maybe he is not honest in selling it to you if you did not indicate buying one.

Yes, the workshop is asked me to return it to the spare part shop as they will only use quarter and buying the whole canister is wasteful.

This workshop seems to be honest in suggesting so .....
for he could have kept the balance of three quarters of what you have paid for his ongoing use .

My engine oil will reduce one 1cm every month although changed top gasket 2019.

Very Sad nowadays very hard to find pro foreman and majority is spare part man always ask you change this and that but no guarantee one

Ask them diagnostic the sound but at the end after part changed , the sound still there ! after that ack like don't know

I am his regular customer but all this while, normal service no problem but come to major issue, it depend his luck to solve
