At 4.563km long, the revamped Fuji Speedway re-opened its doors in April 2005 and in 2007, takes over the hosting of the Japanese Grand Prix.

The circuit, owned by Toyota, sits in the shadow of Mount Fuji and at 4.359km in length hosted the season finale in 1976. The race has been well documented elsewhere but while Mario Andretti won the rain hit event in his Lotus Ford while James Hunt's third position in his McLaren Ford gave him the World Championship from Niki Lauda - who withdrew from the race due to the conditions - by a single championship point.

The race returned in 1977 with Hunt taking his final Formula One victory in his McLaren but an accident involving Gilles Villeneuve and Ronnie Peterson resulted in the death of two spectators and the race was dropped from the calendar. The Japanese Grand Prix resumed at the Honda-owned Suzuka circuit in 1987 and hosted the Japanese Grand Prix until 2006.

With Hermann Tilke involved in the new Fuji facility, the circuit closed to racing in 2003 before reopening two years later. In 2007, the race organisers are hoping to pull in a crowd of 280,000 over the three day Grand Prix weekend. On a side note, Fuji also made history in becoming the first circuit to be featured in a video game, Pole Position, the 1982 classic video game by Namco.

Lewis Hamilton has criticised Fernando Alonso after he was forced off the track by his team-mate at the start of the Belgian GP.

The two McLaren drivers, who are not the best of friends as it is, started the grand prix side-by-side on the second row of the grid.

And heading into the first corner they will still alongside each other when Alonso shut the door on his rookie team-mate, forcing him off the track.

It was a move that Hamilton labeled 'unfair', saying he didn't expect it from someone he looks up to and someone who is always complaining when such moves are pulled on him.

"I wouldn't say fair, but it was hard," Hamilton told Autosport with regards to Alonso's move.

"The guy on the outside doesn't always have the corner. I don't know whether I was ahead, but there was enough room for us all to get round fair and square.

"I just feel for someone that's always complaining about people doing unfair maneuvers, and everyone wanting to be fair and someone I look up to, and he has gone and swiped me and pushed me as wide as he could. I was just really lucky there was a run-off area so I could take that."

Lewis Hamilton on Sunday criticised his team-mate Fernando Alonso after their on-track battle at the start of the Belgian Grand Prix.

The championship leader, whose advantage over Alonso was reduced to just two points after finishing fourth at Spa Francorchamps, was quoted as saying after the race that he thought the Spaniard's driving at the first corner had not been fair.

"I don't know if we touched, but he had plenty of room to let us both go around the corner," Hamilton is quoted as saying by motorsport-total.com.

Replays show Hamilton going wide off the circuit at La Source before his wheel to wheel dice with Alonso continued on the approach to the flat-out Eau Rouge bends.

"Fernando always complains about others he says are unfair, but he pushed me off clearly intentionally. For a young driver like me, who looks up to a double world champion, he is not fulfilling his position as a role model," Hamilton said.

But McLaren boss Ron Dennis told the British broadcaster ITV after the race that he thought his drivers' tactics had been "absolutely fine".

"They weren't too aggressive, and they're racing drivers, that's what they do," he insisted.

After a season of controversies involving his team, Dennis was keen to play down the incident.

"Let's move to motor racing for the next three Grand Prix," he advised.

KR: I lost it.

KR: No, I have always wanted to do one and here it is much easier so... And it was the second race engine, so it doesn't really matter if you make life harder for it.

This year tyre spec is not the same as last year. All teams has been given the chance to test 07 tyres during winter testing.
