TC is not something new in F1. IIRC in early 90s already got TC in F1. IIRC the best car was williams : TC, active suspension, automatic gearbox..

AFAIK, Button is one of the driver didnt like TC.

TC no fun la.. cannot see much smoke on the tyre.. cannot see tyre spinning...

QUOTE
Two Conclusions From Stepneygate

As an American with a professional background in the law (19 years as a practicing attorney) I have two observations at the Stepneygate Grand Finale.

First, P-F1 and the British press seem extremely biased in favor of McLaren with all their whining about the alleged "politicization" and excessive response by the FIA. It is now clear Coughlan was not the only McLaren employee with knowledge of and access to the Ferrari data. Anyone with even a smidgen of ethical integrity would have immediately reported Stepney's attempt to leak/disseminate such material to the FIA and under no circumstances actually accepted any of it. The failure to do so demonstrates an incredible lack of foresight. Just how, after all, was this all NOT going to come out publicly at some point? After Coughlan accepted Stepney's information, the result is cheating - pure and simple. This is true regardless of whether the information was actually used, and the defense that it was not used is self-serving and without merit. Is it a defense when one football team is caught with their opponent's play book to say: "We already ran similar plays, we didn't actually run any of their plays and the coach only scanned their book for a couple of hours?" Is it a defense following a failed blood test for a Tour de France cyclist to say "Sure I took the drugs, but for some reason they really didn't help me on the course that day?" The answer both times is "No." I'm not a McLaren or a Ferrari fan per se, but I have admired the way Ron Dennis has run his team since the days when John Barnard's MP4-1 was driven by Watson and Lauda. I'm sure Ron is sick over this. I'm also pretty sure that deep down Dennis knows this result is the minimum necessary to maintain integrity in the sport. Frankly, it doesn't sit too well with me that after such cheating either Alonso or Hamilton - both of whom are superb drivers and otherwise worthy of this year's championship - may become champion at the expense of Kimi or Massa (who are equally deserving). That's no different than rewarding the jockey after he rode a horse that had been doped. Should Alonzo or Hamilton win this year's championship, as it appears will happen, the result will forever be marked with an asterisk in many people's minds just like the Barry Bonds baseball home run record recently set in this country.

Second, I have never seen grown men in such positions of power and responsibility act so childishly. One would think this all happened among eight year olds at an Elementary School. Stepney stubbornly continues to insist he is innocent despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Coughlan, lurking in the shadows for months, finally breaks down and apologizes when called to the principal's office of the FIA and confronted. McLaren knowing they have been caught red handed with their fingers in the cookie jar attempt a last second diversion by trying to show Renault has also been eyeing some before dinner treats. Alonzo, De la Rosa and other rats suddenly volunteer up new and incriminating evidence once it becomes clear the McLaren ship is sinking and they are given the chance to salvage their own careers - something they should have done long ago without being asked or coerced. Whitmarsh, Lowe and others admit only what is already known while squirming in their chairs trying to avoid expulsion. To think that these people run an organization that employs hundreds and is in a position to pay a $100 million dollar fine is a bit frightening!

QUOTE(linkinstreet @ Sep 14 2007, 05:47 PM)
depends on how you see it. Like I said, F1 move at a bizzare pace right now. From what we can be certain, the info that Coughlan had were relevent untill the next update that Ferrari makes, which IIRC, he did not have info on.
Was the information he received relevant to the car? we will never know as during that time (Australia - > Spain) McLaren was slower than the Ferraris. Malaysia can be seen as a fluke of sort. The time that they had a pure advantage (Monaco) it was expected because of their wheelbase design, which I might add, was designed last season.
And while that said in part of McLaren, what about Ferrari. Till this day, I'm still waiting to see who was the "alert" guy that phoned Ferrari saying that he saw the dossier being copied. I mean, c'mon, he should be the main witness, yet we never saw or heard of him during the two trials. Heck, if I were him, I knew I'd be paid big bucks from papers who wants my story. No way I'd keep mum after that.
Last season Toyota received information from 2 former Ferrari employers, and while they were charged, why not Toyota? and why not Stepney, the man that started all this?
And from what Ron Dennis said, Fernando and Pedro testified denying any knowledge about the Ferrari dossier or design, or anything that might have helped them.
yes, he might say that McLaren ran a car similar to a horse being doped. But the real question is, how many is not doped? Nearly all the teams does espionage, and I'd bet that many of the teams steals from their rivals one way from another, just that Stepney and Coughlan got caight.

after reading halfway the reason why FIA punish McLaren.. I am so disappointed.... as a McLaren Supporter for so many years... hay....

Alonso/McLaren know when is Kimi's stop in Aus.. McLaren know clearly what is the weight distribution of the car of ferarri... they know clearly how the braking system of Ferarri work.... etc etc etc... .. .. not yet finish reading...

I felt pity to Kimi.. I think he will be the champion this year if there is no such case.... or maybe Massa...

and I felt Both Hamilton and Alonso ... .. .. .. what for racing by knowing the rival secret... .. .. .. .. hay... what for watching F1 .... hay..... .. .. .. ..

The reason why I see Hamilton slow here becoz he is not good in the Spa circuit... not experience enough.. this circuit are very damanding on the driver/experience.. corner follow by corner.. n corner again... some more u can't even see the corner.. up hill.. then downhill.. have to practice a lot in this circuit..

true or not.. ? no point la.. for Alonso/Hamilton to win.. just let Kimi Win the Title will do.. laugh.gif laugh.gif

QUOTE

Mosley, though, feels the whole affair has cast a stain over the sport, and that might not sit well with Hamilton should he go on to win the title in his rookie year.

"I think he will probably feel more comfortable if he wins a subsequent championship, which I am sure he will, without any of these question marks," said Mosley.

"There was a big debate in the World Council about whether all the points should go - team and drivers.

"We discussed whether to take the drivers' points from McLaren, but allow the drivers to drive, don't interfere with their super licence and so on.

"The lawyers felt everything should go - drivers points and all - because they argued: how can you give the world champion's cup to someone who may have had an unfair advantage over other drivers?

"They have effectively cheated. But the other side of it was, here is this brilliant world championship between Hamilton and Alonso.

"The sporting people were saying, 'If you interfere with that, you are spoiling a very good championship. It wasn't the drivers' fault.' But there again, it never is.

"Very often, for example, a car will be disqualified from a race because it is a kilo overweight which will probably make no difference at all, but you have to have this principle. It's the same as in athletics or anywhere else, if you're outside of the rules, you are not in the game.

"So there will always be a question mark over it, there has to be, because nobody knows how big an advantage they had from that.

"But that they had an advantage is almost beyond dispute."

-Max Mosley
