Simple. This is the only way Apple can release a ‘budget-friendly’ phone (for some measure of budget-friendly).

Try to imagine you as a pepsi seller, you took 5 years pepsi to pack into new design packaging and sell for a decent price. Profit.

They want to compete with other brands. They want low cost manufacturing and sell at reasonable price to increase their sales.

Maximizing profit. Doesn't matter as it is their low end device.

Time for Apple to hold Malaysia No 1 market share and beating Samsung to the ground.

To meet current financial needs for a new phone, old design but yet with Powerful chipset. That is one of the criteria of SE phone!

Because they still maintain their revenue. They will only introduce change if their loyal customers start shifting away to other brands.

Save cost

Tooling is expensive (The tools used to mold/cut/grind the chasis of the device).

It would take them many iteration to perfect the tools needed to create a brand new chasis. Higher iteration, higher RnD cost. High RnD cost = High price tag.

It makes a lot of sense for them not to reinvent the wheel again if they want to price their product lower. It's very smart of them to leverage their previous designs including the logic boards to create a brand new product.

Even though they are recycling the old designs, I'm pretty confident the quality is just as high as the ones before. The rigidity of the chasis, the premium feel of the metal/aluminium frame remains in tact. I doubt any other OEMs can replicate what Apple did here.

left over materials from previous gen...give better specs now and re-sell as new phones...no wastage..smart move...

New design = costly development cost
Old design = budget friendly

So if you can afford, go for flagship model. If cannot afford don't dream of using Apple

I like that design. It stands out in the crowd. Every others are having similar design.
