Bought a black SE yesterday with SP and Case from Switch. Today when i opened the case I realised there were some scuff marks on the aluminium. Looks like a tiny dot. Went to the shop and they said it’s out of their sop so asked me to go to service center and see what they’ll offer me. I have to make an appointment to see them.

Do you guys think it’s possible for them to fix it or replace the unit? Or is the aluminium really that prone to scratch? I never opened the case until this morning just to inspect the phone again.

Update 1930HRS: 2 more paint chip appears.

Had a chat with a support agent around 7:45PM. Was told someone will call me in a short while. I am still waiting now 9:37PM. I'm not sure how to tell if it's painted on or not. Now I'm just afraid of it chipping again. My first iPhone but I guess I'm unlucky!

I regret not getting it from Apple Store on Lazada (15 days return policy)....

Had to queue at Switch due to CMCO only to be told they can't do anything about it but to try to ask the service centre..

Dude that's terrible! Was it a painted on unit...? Of course it's out of their SOP. "Once sold leave the sucker to suffer" that's the only SOP we consumers get in this country! What with this bloody lot running all the resellers!

Demand a new unit raise the case to Apple online and next time please everyone just buy from Apple online

I believe at that point of time it wasn’t even a Malaysian CS. Probably US.

I stated my disappointment in my first and last Apple phone to them. Then she said she’ll pass me to a senior.

They took my report and sent it over to customer relations and asked me to call 1800 803 638 on monday 9am to get a solution from them.

Called Apple Support 1800 80 3638 and was connected to a support person but had to connect to me the product team waited about 40 minutes. Then I was talking to an engineer and she took more of the details and gave me a link to upload more photos of the phone and the Uniq Combat Case: https://uniqcreation.com/products/combat-se...=32146798379071

It seems more of a spot chipping on the aluminium frame. But they will have to investigate further after reviewing more images before they can come up with a conclusion.

I'll be damned if we shouldn't use a case on this phone.

Heck my P9 Plus, P10, P20 Pro, Mate 20, Pixel 3a could use cases without any scratch, scuff, paint chipping or whatever.

Yeah too bad I only realised 20 hours later. It's just funny how the paint is chipping off. They are literally spots and not like scratch marks. So yea Apple Careline was willing to take the report in and to investigate with their hardware engineers. It just doesn't make sense that I shouldn't be using a case let along a case sold by an official reseller who probably sold the case to many customers as well but doesn't have the paint spots chipping on the aerospace grade aluminium. So now it feels like i'm using a fragile phone that will get its paint chipped off anytime.

Maybe my bad luck or something especially when i remembered iPhone 7 had similar issues with certain batch. But oh well waiting for their reply/call. They themselves are suprised it happened less than 24 hours. The engineer said if it were months then probably they won't be investigating further (Which I totally understand and accept).

Should have bought from Lazada Apple Store since they have a 15 day return policy.

U shud open box and check the phone at the shop itself

Once it leaves the shop, its ur word against theirs

These kinda scratch usually they dont cover. Unless u can prove that it was like that out of the box

Just another update,

After Apple's investigation they offered a refund or replacement. Apple said if it were bought from them they can honor the refund if it's within 14 days from purchase date.

But in my case I bought it from Switch Malaysia they asked me to ask them about their refund/replacement policy (Which I did informed them with eh case number and is waiting for their superior's feedback).

Hopefully they will honor the claim as per Apple's advice.

Apple support followed up with Switch and told me they already instructed Switch to replace another unit for me. Now I’m waiting for Switch to contact me on the next step.

So I asked Apple if there are any similar incidents and they say they treat it on a case by case basis. If my phone were a few months old then they wouldn’t replace it (which I would totally understand as well). But since it’s only a day, they decided to replace it. I believe speaking to the right person will help. The senior specialist was very helpful I’d say. Kudos to her.

Now I hope Switch will make this replacement experience smooth.

If they received specific instructions from Apple, then they will honour the claim. I probably think a replacement will be faster than a refund, as that could take some time to process.

Dropped my iPhone SE to the service centre as per their appointment yesterday. It will take 7-10 working days for them to replace. They only took the phone (not the box, etc.).
Received a SMS this morning stating that they shipped the phone to Apple Repair Center for further checking. Delivery subject to custom clearance.

Received a new unit (phone only). Used the Uniq Combat casing just to make sure it wasn't the case. No scratch or paint chipping.

The CS was like "hope not to see you again" normally we don't replace cosmetic damage. I was too lazy to explain to this guy about my situation (the paint chipping) and just took the phone, checked and leave. As if I was the one who damaged the phone. doh.gif

I'm getting about 5-6 hours SOT from 100-0% (data taken from Settings>Battery). Which is surprisingly okay? But I do have to plug it to the charge about twice a day. Because I maintain a 30%-80% charge level. Unless i'm out and about then I'll carry a powerbank just in case.

My daily use: Calls (1-2 hours/day), Whatsapp, FB, Instagram
