Good day to all Masters and Sifus here.

Wana get some opinion on whether I should change my current monitor or not?

Currently using
Acer XB252Q
1080p 240hz
GSync Module
TN Panel

Would like to change to 1440p 144hz IPS options
What I have in mind is
LG 27GL850
Acer XB273U GS

But both of these are just G-Sync Compatible, and I do understand that IPS panel have some ghosting issue while using low response time compared to TN.

Is there any other recommendation ?
Or should I just stick with my current monitor?

What kind of GPU you are running on? It requires at least a 2070 Super to power high settings for those 1440p 144hz monitors that you've mentioned.

Are you playing games competitively?

Thanks you for ur reply smile.gif

Currently using only a RTX 2060, in the near future I have plan to upgrade to the next 70 series from Nvidia. Was on a budget back then when building this rig.

144hz is just to future proof haha. Main concern is the crisp 1440p sharpness n colour.

Playing mostly First Person Shooter

I think 1080p gaming for FPS is good enough. can't really see much difference in a 27 inch display.

Thanks for the input ^^

Yeah seems fair enough to game @1080p.

If only I can find a good calibration settings for the XB252Q, bcoz the colour gamut is not so great (TN panel issue)

Stay at home too long makes me think of changing this and that haha.

you are not alone. i have friends who wants to renovate their house after staying at home for too long.
i mean unless you have plenty of spare cash to blow for 1440p 144hz then by all means go ahead. its just nice to have with a premium on top.
lets be honest here, 60hz 1080p is pretty good as well haha. all those marketing makes you want something better.

and as Reaper mentioned, gotta upgrade them graphic cards as well to make use of such nice screen. wouldn't wanna play on med settings on a 1440p right haha.

it would be a wise choice to go for 1440p 144Hz IPS panel. i went from AOC G2460V which is TN panel, FHD and 75Hz to LG 27GL850 which is 1440p 144Hz IPS panel. spectacular differences. no such thing as good enough.
you have been misinformed somehow, ghosting is common on VA but not IPS. TN has better response time than VA and IPS. IPS has best viewing angles and color reproduction against VA and TN.
but IPS today is very good at handling response time and is getting closer to TN. 27GL850 even has faster response time than a lot of TNs out there at optimal overdrive setting.

however, it would be a downgrade from 240Hz to 144Hz, and will be noticeable on fast-paced gaming like competitive FPS. so far no announcements on 1440p 240Hz IPS models except for Eve Spectrum where the 240Hz models are claimed to be shipped readily on Q4 2020 but I'd highly doubt it, considering the company's poor track record and current pandemic.

Yea, I do knw 27GL850 is the go to choice for best price performance option. But the one thing that makes me hold on is the GSync Compatible vs the actual GSync module on my XB252Q.

On paper both can work, but is there any real diff?

I m using Acer XB271 monitor, bought it a few years ago. Text is sharper and image+colours is good too. So far no ghosting issue or whatsoever. My dated PC configure Intel 3770K pair with GTX1080 still run games fairly good. XB273U should be much better XB271.

both can work in reality.
bet you have already know how these adaptive sync technology works, it's as simple as if your game's fps is 90fps, the monitor will auto-switch to 90Hz so that there's no screen tearing and the need of v-sync. this is best known as variable refresh rate (VRR).
there WAS a key difference though:
1. usually g-sync compatible adaptive sync module has a range of VRR, for example 48-144Hz (e.g. 27GL850 and a lot other 144Hz panels), 48-165Hz (e.g. Gigabte FI27Q-P and other 165Hz panels). the adaptive sync module will turn off when fps goes lower than 48. however, with Low Framerate Compensation (LFC) technology found in high end monitors today (incl. 27GL850, FI27Q-P, Asus XG279Q and so on) even when fps goes lower than VRR range the frames will be doubled and VRR will sync it. for example, if your game runs at 40fps, LFC will double it to 80fps and VRR will sync it on 80Hz.
2. original g-sync module basically works on 0Hz - max monitor refresh rate e.g. 0 - 144Hz.

tl;dr = no difference

LG 27GN750-B is 240Hz FHD, is it good?

Laptop screen already reach 300Hz, any chances of desktop reaching 240Hz or 300Hz this year and in what inch?
