http://www.wdc.com/en/company/greenpower.aspWD's new GreenPower hard drive family will offer capacities of 320GB to 1TB, and the company boasts that it can cut power consumption by up to 40%. The drives have a variable spindle speed of 5400RPM to 7200RPM, 16MB of cache, and support for 300MB/s Serial ATA transfer speeds.

the onli thing i can see is they vary the spindle speed to save power. and spins up to spindle as needed.

Nowadays every single electronic parts also move towards enerygy efficient. Just worry about the cost of the HDD compare to current model.

I remember overseas have a 80 plus program or something like dat for HDD to save power. No surprise that WD is doing the same for Asia's market. I support!
