Cannot go wrong with any CPU after Phenom II and i5-2500 for gaming la.....
CPU demand havent really increased up to this point.
IMO, you upgrade mainly for platform features like NVMe only.
Otherwise, old i5-2500 can play any game just fine provided you pair with the right GPU

nah, forget it.
better to get ryzen 1000 if no budget.
i sold my x6 for rm250 with mobo, hyper 612s and 12GB of ram.
on second thought, maybe should have kept the 612s and mod it on my gpu.

Still having my i5-2400 and a GTX 560. It was built 9 years ago for Battlefield 3 game.

Not sure the processor still can rock current game in maybe medium setting or not if I were to pair with better GPU.

Bro,

Laptop AMD still stuck with Zen 1st gen. Even the latest one 3000 series is just a Zen+. 4000 series is Zen2 based which is the major leap but you have to wait until late Q2 or early Q3. 4000 series also mark 6 cores medium class instead of 4 cores. This is where it will start to shine.

I think you don't get the point of the video, while amd is focusing on core count, intel is optimizing their processors so that it works better with applications. Sort of a quality > quantity example.

Back on Sandy Bridge to Kaby Lake, yes. They steamroll AMD. Sandy Bridge to beginning of Haswell is cheap too. They start raising prices on Devil's Canyon.

Bro,

You're right with Intel working with software developers to optimise apps using their special instruction like mmx, sse, whatever it is now.

However you need to know now that the game has changed. Software developers are starting to change their codes to share loads across multiple cores especially so gaming.

I think the fact that we had hit a wall helped Intel so much. The fact that we had to run heavy intensive rendering to showed how much faster Ryzen is compared to Intel is what helping Intel to stay in the game despite being so far behind.

In the past, I would not have doubted your arguments because Intel has better IPC numbers. Their single core performance still solid. However its not single or dual core works anymore. It's a world of >6 cores now whether you need it or not. Intel doesn't has anything that scales as well as Ryzen. AMD had taken the right step to combat ARM but Intel is still sleeping because they had the cash to cartel the whole PC industry to go along with it. PC industry need to wake up. It's not AMD vs Intel anymore. It's X86 vs RISC and thanks to AMD, they are still in the fight.

I got one 2600 in my unused HTPC. Those who want to play games at 1080p, this CPU is absolutely perfect when coupled with GTX1070 and above.

best value vs performance is rx 470, rx570 and rx 580 for 1080p (medium to high)

of course 2600 and rx 580 8gb is best pair. biggrin.gif

You have to install all.

Maybe AMD does not allow core allocation more than its physical cores.

I could test the same scenario for you if you want. I got 12 cores. Maybe 6 instances?
*
Yes, you can't assign more than its physical cores for AMD.
