jeromeccm.......very nice max load temps....are you able to go any higher with the Biostar I45?

trying to hit the 4G Bench... actually with my current voltage setting. i can esily hit 3.8G.. let me do more test first.... will share here...

personally i think if can hit 4G with Air colling is consider ver very good performance... notice not many people can get that...

the board helps alot... with foxconn mars... i cant hit 3.6G stable....
this board is great....

just sharing...

my Q6600 running at 1.42 Vcore, 400X9 = 3.6G
Temp idle = 43C, Load Max = 60C

heatsink fan: Xigmatek Scorpion
Therml past (very important!!!!!! MX2 or Tuniq)

i used to use capalang thermal past.. temp was 65 at 1.37 at 3.2G.. but now can go somemore... woohoooo rclxm9.gif

credit goes to cstkl1.. he thought me how to OC my processor with the Biostar I45..

what's your q6600 vid?you should use x9 multi for higher clock
*
vid is 1.325. 9x can go for higher clock but needs higher vcore also right?

QUOTE(TristanX @ Jul 1 2008, 12:38 PM)
I noticed there are >3000rpm case fans. Maybe that helped a lot on cooling because the airflow is probably a lot faster and possibly an air conditioner.
Try adding more intake and exhaust fans.
*
already 2x120mm exhaust and 1x120mm intake case fans. no more bracket to put more...

ur temperature is captured using what software? when i use coretemp, it's much higher than my ASUS AI Suite temperature. so which is real?
I'm also using Tuniq for thermal paste.

HWMonitor from CPUID and OCCT.. open either one software only to monitor....

dont want to put a fan there and leave the door open. i think lots of dust will go in

hi guys, currently testing my friend's rig (Q6600 400*8, Biostar TPower I45, Gemini2 with 2x12cm CM fan 90cfm, CM690) stressing using prime95, monitor temp using core temp n biostar TPower2 software, but the temp reading are diff (10C), can i trust the core temp reading? (max 67C so far by core temp)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1 thread just failed after 20min stressing, i guese have to lower down the bus speed now sad.gif
or any1 can give me tips how to achieve 3.2ghz stable?

i tihnk the tpower2 sotfware is more accurate... it is very similar when i use the OCCT to stress...

i think i finally get a good setting now; 3.4Ghz (380*9) @ 1.352Vcore, RAM run 914Mhz FSB:DRAM 5:6, stable for 2hrs already on small FFTs prime95 with max load temp 67C thumbup.gif

previously tried running 3.6ghz (450*8) @ 1.45V (tried with 1.40V but crashed) but load temp exceeded 70C even using Gemini2 with 2x 12cm fan 90cfm, so dun wan to stress the proc a lot, i think its enuf with 3.4Ghz icon_rolleyes.gif

about the temp, i forgot that this mobo (Biostar TP I45) got its own temp display on the board, so i agree with jeromeccm, tpower2 is the accurate reader 1

Tried stressing my Q6600 more than 366mhz for my Asus P5Q Deluxe but I think my power supply is stopping me. The comp doesn't start at 400mhz and I get an overclock failure after powering it off and on. I don't think I can go more than 366mhz with this heatsink anyway.

Got 68C for 366mhz on my Asus Silent Knight II and I got scared. Went back to 333mhz and it's stable after stressing for an hour. There is no vdrop with EPU-6 on.

i encountered a weird situation just now, i trying to achieve 3.5ghz by setting 437*8 @ 1.44Vcore (prev tried 1.40V but failed prime95 just after 1min), testing with the setting on prime95, no failure after 10min but temp went up to 70C, dont know why during the test, my vista suddenly logged off (like in proper way, closed all the program and shutted down), i thought maybe it setting somewhere in bios to shut down the system when reaching certain temp, but its not, i mannually set the limit to 80C, and log on into windows again and re-run the prime95, but still same, after about 10 min, without any error on the test, the system shutted down by itself, really weird la, can some1 tell me whats going on here?

maybe u have a temperature monitoring tool running which is doing the auto shutdown when it reaches certain temperature?

There's no maximum safe temperature for any processor. The lower it is the better....

However, it is generally recommended to keep your CPU's temperature lower than 60-65'c.....

Hi guys I just joined the Q6600 G0 bandwagon.

Appreciate some tips to improve my overclock:

Processor: Q6600 G0 currently running at 3.0 ghz 333x9 (tested with 12 hours prime) using HyperTX cooler and 1.365 voltage
Motherboard: Asus P5KR with vdroop pencil mod
RAM: 2 x 1gb Team Xtreem RAM DDR2 1066 running at 667 mhz (for troubleshooting first) at 5-5-5-15 at Auto Voltage
PSU: Gigabyte 850 W Odin
GFX: 2x4850 Crossfire (non oced)

Right now 3.0ghz is fine. Temps are around 47C Idle but jumps up to 69C ish after about an hour of priming based on Speedfan. A bit concerned about temperature.

A note that before the pencil mod, I could not get my overclock higher than 2.8ghz as the voltage kept on fluctuating.

But if I try to run it at 3.2 ghz I'll get an error at Core 2 using Prime(that is 0,1,2,3). Tried increasing the voltage but still received the error within a few minutes of running even at 1.425 V

Have I really hit the limit of my processor or is the mobo to blame or my pencil mod? Please note that without the pencil mod I could not even get up to 3.0ghz.

You probably have to get a better heatsink to overclock further. I'm going to get Thermalright IFX-14 heatsink and Coolermaster CM690 or Stacker 832 casing soon tongue.gif

As far as I know the heatsink I use although is cheap and simple has been rated as one of the better air cooling solutions available (just see a couple of the reviews above). not saying it's the best...but surely the overclock I seek is a very moderate one? I've seen STOCK cooling achieve these speeds.

There's also some arctic mx-2 paste under it as well.

I just noticed that you are using 2 GPUs. Maybe it's your power supply. I'm hitting the wall at 366mhz(333mhz for this stupid heatsink) bus with my 560W PSU and Silent Knight II heatsink. Going more than 65C on your CPU is not recommended.

If 850 W of a top tier psu is not enough, nothing will be. Going 1000 W is way overkill and would just be a complete waste of money.

I am not running tons of peripherals and far exceed the recommended power supply recommendation by ATI themselves for their 4850 crossfire setup.
